Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jerrold Valencia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brayden Schenn!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schenn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Valencia to the mat! Valencia manages to get full guard.
Schenn preventing the sweep.
Valencia could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Valencia is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Valencia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Schenn looking to sit in guard and control but Valencia gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Schenn being controlled here, momentarily.
Schenn is trying to control the position but Valencia postures up.
Valencia is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Valencia advances to half guard.
Valencia not doing much here.
Valencia is trying to control. Schenn wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Valencia is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jerrold Valencia just wasn't active enough.
Schenn keeps the fight on the outside.

Valencia manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Schenn on his heels. He'll look to pass Schenn's guard now, I'm sure.
Schenn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Valencia is one step ahead there.
Valencia slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Schenn is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Schenn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Valencia slips nicely into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Valencia is thwarting Schenn's attempts to control the position.

Valencia content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Schenn is staying active underneath Valencia, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Valencia bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Schenn is looking for a sweep.
Valencia controlling the position.
Valencia tries to advance to mount but Schenn denies him.

Valencia creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Schenn sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Schenn tries to buck Valencia off but Valencia is having none of it.

Valencia wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Schenn, who protects the arm well.

Valencia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Valencia is looking to take a break and control but Schenn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Schenn moves to clinch but Valencia breaks away

and Valencia counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Schenn controls Valencia momentarily but Valencia frees himself.

Schenn has his foot on Valencia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Valencia works his way back into a safe position though.
Valencia forces his way into half guard.
Valencia wants to free his trapped foot but Schenn is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Valencia is controlling the pace.
Schenn is trying to get back to full guard.

Valencia tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Schenn.

Valencia wants to work for an arm triangle but Schenn is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Valencia controlling the pace.
Schenn is trying to maintain the position but Valencia is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Valencia controlling the action here.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Schenn avoids the head kick by Valencia.
Schenn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Valencia scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Schenn is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Valencia jumps into side control!
Valencia advances to mount.

Schenn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Schenn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Valencia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Schenn is breathing heavily.
Valencia works his way to his opponent's back.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Valencia controlling the positon.

Schenn is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Valencia wants to control but Schenn is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Valencia is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Schenn is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Valencia is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Schenn with him. Schenn is trying to defend but Valencia has an arm under the chin now! Schenn grimaces and is forced to tap out!
