PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Filipovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kova Tangis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Filipovic kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Wild Boys. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tangis rushes Filipovic and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Tangis takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Filipovic wants to take the fight to the mat but Tangis manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Tangis displaying some good clinch control by pressing Filipovic up against the cage.
Filipovic is trying to break the clinch but Tangis is controlling him.
Tangis lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Filipovic backwards.
Tangis goes for a takedown in the clinch but Filipovic prevents it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Tangis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Filipovic keeps working.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Tangis fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Filipovic has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Filipovic dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tangis. That did some damage!
Tangis wants to clinch.
Tangis throws a head kick that misses
enabling Filipovic to counter with a crisp jab.
Tangis sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Tangis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Filipovic tries to avoid it but Tangis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Filipovic to the ground. Filipovic escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tangis shoots in but no luck this time.
Tangis avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tangis takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Tangis is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tangis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Filipovic is staying active underneath Tangis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Tangis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Tangis working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Tangis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tangis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Filipovic is not content to let Tangis control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Tangis fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tangis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Filipovic misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tangis moves out of range of the leg kick from Filipovic.
Tangis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Filipovic's waist but Filipovic gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tangis off to one side.
Tangis will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Tangis shoots in looking for a takedown. Filipovic tries to sprawl out of it but Tangis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Filipovic manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Filipovic feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Tangis's calf.

Tangis gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Tangis walks into a stiff left hand from Filipovic.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Filipovic! Tangis is backing up but he can't get away as Filipovic lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Tangis and ends the fight. Great knockout.
