PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alejandro Dennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patricio Nunes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alejandro Dennis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patricio Nunes!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nunes has closed the distance and engaged Dennis in a clinch.
Nunes is trying to break the clinch but Dennis has him pressed against the cage.
Nunes is trying to push Dennis away but Dennis has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Dennis wants to break free but Nunes has control.
Nunes can't find room to land a body shot as Dennis controls the action.

Nunes jumps guard and drags Dennis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Dennis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dennis stays in close to Nunes's body and controls the position.
Dennis throwing strikes from guard but Nunes blocks nicely.
Dennis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Dennis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Nunes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dennis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dennis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nunes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nunes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dennis is one step ahead there.
Dennis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Nunes doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Nunes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dennis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dennis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Dennis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Dennis drops back looking for a leg! Nunes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nunes manages to kick Dennis off! Dennis jumps back into Nunes's guard.
Dennis really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Dennis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Dennis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dennis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Alejandro Dennis has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Nunes gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Dennis regains guard.
Nunes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dennis pulls Nunes in close to prevent any damage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Patricio Nunes hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Nunes throws a head kick but Dennis moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alejandro Dennis will probably get the nod.
That's time! Dennis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Nunes shoots in and bounces Dennis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Nunes with a flurry of punches that miss.
Dennis keeping moving, preventing Nunes from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dennis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nunes's guard.
Nunes has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Dennis has passed into side control.
Nunes parries the strikes from Dennis easily there. Dennis is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Nunes to escape.

Dennis lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Nunes down.
Nunes tries to bench press Dennis off him but Dennis keeps the position.

Dennis looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Dennis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nunes keeps working.
Nunes struggling a bit here.
Nunes is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Dennis is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Nunes's shoulder. That is not cool.

Dennis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dennis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Nunes is trying to improve his position.

Nunes dodges the ground and pound from Dennis.

Dennis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nunes is looking to clinch but Dennis is avoiding it.

Nunes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Dennis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Dennis wants to sweep here but Nunes controlling him for the moment.

Dennis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Patricio Nunes wasn't active enough on the ground.
Dennis swats away the attempt to clinch by Nunes.
Nunes tries a head kick but it misses.

Nunes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Dennis back to the cage. Nunes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.


It looks like Alejandro Dennis has been cut.
Nunes throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


Dennis is rocked!
Nunes throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! Dennis crumples to the floor and the fight is over!
