Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Walter Payton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howard has chosen Carwash as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payton moves into range and clinches up with Howard.
Howard is trying to break free.
Payton tries to score a body lock takedown but Howard shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Howard throws a looping overhand right but Payton ducks down to avoid it.
Payton closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Payton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Howard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Payton is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Payton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Payton is looking for a kimura but Howard is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Payton to get the leverage.
Payton postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Howard to stand up.
Howard's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Howard duly obliges.

Payton gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Payton is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Howard is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Howard has escaped and now he's on top!
Payton is looking for a triangle but Howard pushes his legs off easily.
Payton is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Howard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Payton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Payton cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Payton looking to control but Howard is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Payton lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Howard's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Payton is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Howard has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Payton jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Howard manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Howard is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Payton works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Howard manages to get back to half guard.
Howard slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Howard wants to get back to his feet but Payton is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Howard pushes Payton off and gets back to his feet.
Howard tries to keep at a distance but Payton has taken the fight into the clinch.
Howard is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Payton pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Payton's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Howard wants to get back to striking at distance but Payton won't allow it.
Howard jumps guard but Payton stands there with Howard around his waist. Howard gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Walter Payton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Howard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Walter Payton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Payton looking for a triangle here. Howard is fighting it but it looks tight! Payton pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Howard is tapping out - this one is all over!
