PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Will Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marlon Delim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Will Sawyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Marlon Delim!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sawyer slips a jab and a cross from Delim.
Delim misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sawyer.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sawyer tries to score a body lock takedown but Delim shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Sawyer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Delim shoots in looking for a takedown. Sawyer tries to sprawl out of it but Delim keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sawyer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sawyer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A cross from Delim lands.

Delim gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sawyer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Delim smiles and moves away.

Delim pushes Sawyer up against the cage in a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Delim wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Delim is trying to drag Sawyer to the mat but Sawyer just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Delim pulls guard successfully.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Delim has his foot on Sawyer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sawyer works his way back into a safe position though.
Delim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Delim will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Delim utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sawyer wants to control from the top but Delim keeps moving.
Sawyer is really struggling to control Delim but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Sawyer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Will Sawyer.

Sawyer has managed to clinch.

Delim manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Delim wants to stand but Sawyer is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sawyer won't allow Delim to sweep him here.
Delim pulls Sawyer in close to prevent any damage.

Sawyer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Delim is proving hard to escape from.
Delim manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sawyer manages to get himself to full guard.
Delim wants to stand but Sawyer is controlling his posture from full guard.
Sawyer is trying to hold Delim in close to prevent damage but Delim has managed to pass into half guard.
Sawyer is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Delim looking to ground and pound but Sawyer is blocking nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Delim controlling from the full mount.
Delim blocks Sawyer's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Sawyer tries to hold on but Delim pushes him away.
Delim wants to control the pace but Sawyer is squirming around nicely.
Sawyer working to try and regain half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Delim has hold of Sawyer's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sawyer manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marlon Delim dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Delim will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Delim lands with a good body shot.
Sawyer blocks a head kick by Delim.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Delim throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sawyer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Delim swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Delim tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sawyer defends well and Delim ends up having to push Sawyer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sawyer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Delim shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sawyer counters with a good low kick that Delim was not able to check.
Delim ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sawyer moves away.
Delim takes a swing at Sawyer's ribcage but misses.
Delim throws a series of punches but Sawyer avoids them all with ease.
Delim dives in for a single leg takedown but Sawyer sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Will Sawyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marlon Delim.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Delim.
Delim is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Sawyer is keeping busy.
Delim tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sawyer just stands there and leans against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sawyer wants to break free but Delim has control.
Delim keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sawyer's efforts to push away.
Delim avoiding damage.
Sawyer keeps control of Delim as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sawyer is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Delim pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Delim is trying to break the clinch but Sawyer has him pressed against the cage.
Sawyer is trying to pull guard but Delim has him pressed against the cage.

Sawyer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A combination from Delim does no damage.

Delim instigates a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Delim is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sawyer to keep the fight standing.
Delim gets underhooks to prevent Sawyer's takedown attempt.

Delim jumps into guard, dragging Sawyer to the mat.
Delim pulls Sawyer in close to prevent any damage.
Sawyer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Sawyer prevents Delim from getting back to his feet.
Delim is breathing heavily.

Sawyer drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Delim manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sawyer has Delim in his guard.
Delim trying to control the position from guard on top but Sawyer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sawyer is trying to control the position but Delim postures up.
Sawyer tries to strike from the bottom.
Delim passes Sawyer's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Sawyer is looking to control Delim's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sawyer avoid being mounted?
Sawyer wants to get back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Delim is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sawyer sees it coming and defends easily.
Sawyer trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marlon Delim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Delim swinging wildly here.
Sawyer closes the distance but Delim moves to the side
and Delim counters with a one-two to the body.


Sawyer is rocked!
Marlon Delim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Delim closes the distance and clinches up with Sawyer, looking for a takedown. Delim pushes Sawyer against the cage but Sawyer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sawyer dodges the punch combination from Delim.
Delim connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Sawyer tumbling to the canvas! Delim pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Sawyer was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Marlon Delim!
