PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arakel Gevorgyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uncle Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Body Count's in the house. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Arakel Gevorgyan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Uncle Bob!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bob wants to clinch up but Gevorgyan keeps it at a distance.
Gevorgyan fails to land the takedown.
We've been hearing reports that Gevorgyan has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Gevorgyan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gevorgyan with a poor takedown
and Bob counters with a series of strikes. Gevorgyan will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arakel Gevorgyan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gevorgyan has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Bob finds it's way round the side to connect with Gevorgyan's head.


It looks like Arakel Gevorgyan has been cut.

Bob rushes Gevorgyan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Bob keeps control of Gevorgyan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Gevorgyan is trying to break the clinch but Bob has him pressed against the cage.

Bob works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Bob seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Gevorgyan trying to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Uncle Bob was stalling too much, according to the referee.
A jab from Bob does it's job there.

Gevorgyan drives through and clinches with Bob against the cage.
Gevorgyan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bob walks away with a smile on his face. Gevorgyan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Bob is in close to Gevorgyan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bob sitting in guard here, content to control.

Gevorgyan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bob is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Bob wants to control from the top but Gevorgyan keeps moving.
Bob postures up.
Bob stands up over Gevorgyan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Bob lands a couple of digs.
Bob must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bob landing with the ground and pound.
Bob not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Bob trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gevorgyan looking for a sweep. Not yet Gevorgyan, not yet.
Bob trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've been informed that Bob has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Bob tries to free his leg and advance position but Gevorgyan is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Uncle Bob.

Bob feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Gevorgyan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gevorgyan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Bob wants to pass the guard but Gevorgyan is keeping the position.

Bob trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bob works over Gevorgyan with some ground and pound from guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bob trying to control the position from guard on top but Gevorgyan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gevorgyan is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Bob gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Bob scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Uncle Bob dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Arakel Gevorgyan's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Gevorgyan shoots in and gets a takedown into Bob's guard.
Bob is adopting a defensive guard.
Bob not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Gevorgyan stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Gevorgyan trying to keep a closed guard but Bob is proving a slippery customer.

Gevorgyan working for a triangle but Bob defends it easily.
Bob wants to control from the top but Gevorgyan keeps moving.

Bob thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Gevorgyan is working an open guard so Bob takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Gevorgyan closes the distance and clinches.
Gevorgyan is trying to drag Bob to the mat but Bob just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Gevorgyan misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Bob.

Gevorgyan is fighting off a takedown attempt but Bob is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gevorgyan to the mat. Gevorgyan regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Gevorgyan wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gevorgyan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bob controls the pace.
Bob lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bob not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gevorgyan keeping full guard, as Bob tries to pass.
Gevorgyan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bob is looking to work some ground and pound but Gevorgyan has wrist control.
Bob is looking to advance position but Gevorgyan has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Bob is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Uncle Bob has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bob has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bob sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Bob is trying to maintain the position but Gevorgyan is very close to passing his half guard.
Gevorgyan trying to advance position but Bob counters by regaining guard.

Gevorgyan stands and steps away. Bob gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Gevorgyan has managed to clinch.
Gevorgyan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Bob after a bit of a struggle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bob jumps guard and drags Gevorgyan to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Bob has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gevorgyan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gevorgyan gets to his feet - Bob follows without any prompting.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bob will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Gevorgyan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Gevorgyan stands up.
Uncle Bob seems to be getting the better of the standup.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gevorgyan fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Uncle Bob will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Arakel Gevorgyan's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Gevorgyan closes the distance and clinches.
Gevorgyan wants to get back to striking at distance but Bob won't allow it.
Gevorgyan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bob pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Bob throws a punch but it's blocked by Gevorgyan.

Bob's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gevorgyan swats away the attempt to clinch by Bob.
Bob feints a jab promting Gevorgyan to slip. Bob then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gevorgyan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bob throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gevorgyan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bob is in Gevorgyan's guard.

Gevorgyan keeping moving, preventing Bob from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Uncle Bob has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Gevorgyan has Bob up against the cage in a clinch.
Bob has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gevorgyan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Bob's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gevorgyan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Bob counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gevorgyan won't be happy with that.

Gevorgyan gets back to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gevorgyan tries to roll over but Bob keeps him under control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bob escapes and gets back to his feet.
Bob shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gevorgyan but Gevorgyan pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Bob closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gevorgyan's guard.
Gevorgyan wants to sweep but no luck.

We're going to have a standup here because Arakel Gevorgyan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Bob has clasped his hands together around Gevorgyan's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Gevorgyan manages to get back to half guard.

Uncle Bob is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I've got Bob winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
