Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ricardo Lombard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Destin Craven! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Craven misses with a jab, cross combination.
Lombard drops his hands momentarily and Craven takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Lombard stuffs the takedown attempt from Craven. Craven gets slowly back to his feet. Craven tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lombard was well out of range. Poor timing from Craven. Craven fails with the takedown and Lombard counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Lombard throws a series of punches but Craven moves out of range. Craven lands a head kick. Lombard smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Craven on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Lombard. Lombard obviously looking to wear him down.
Lombard fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Craven on the side of the head. Craven throws a body kick that misses. Lombard tries to close the distance and clinch but Craven swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Lombard stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Craven. Craven throws a head kick that misses. Craven displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lombard throws out the jab. Lombard clinches. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lombard softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Lombard is defending well against a takedown attempt. Ricardo Lombard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Destin Craven.
That's one minute gone in the round. Craven misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Lombard.
Craven jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lombard walks away with a smile on his face. Craven gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Lombard tries to clinch but Craven moves out of range. Lombard throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Lombard avoids the head kick by Craven.
Craven shoots in for a double leg but Lombard sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Craven avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lombard fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Craven misses with a body kick. Lombard misses with a wild body shot. Lombard is looking to clinch. Craven fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lombard sprawls well initially but Craven persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Lombard gets back to full guard.
Craven preventing the sweep. Lombard manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Craven defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Lombard. Lombard is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Craven has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Lombard jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Craven is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Craven and Lombard has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Lombard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Lombard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Craven tries to get back to half guard but can't. Craven can't do much from the bottom here. Craven tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lombard wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Lombard throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. You can see the frustration on Craven's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Lombard in side control, throwing shots but Craven defends. Craven really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lombard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Lombard works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Lombard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Lombard connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Craven some visible discomfort.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lombard tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lombard has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! This has been an exciting period of action! Craven is looking to regain half guard here but Lombard keeps moving and retains side control. The ground and pound from Lombard seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Lombard misses with the ground and pound. Lombard tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lombard has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Craven wants to get back to his feet. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Craven taking punishment in the form of punches.
Lombard goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Craven has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Lombard but great work by Craven. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricardo Lombard dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Lombard throws a left and a right that both miss
and Craven counters with a straight right hand. Lombard tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Craven manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Craven looks for a takedown but Lombard sprawls well. Craven digs a good hook to Lombard's body.
Craven scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Craven shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lombard manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Craven loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Craven is fighting to break Lombard's control of his arms but Lombard is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Lombard looking for a guillotine here but Craven defends easily.
Craven trying to control but Lombard is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Craven content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Lombard has locked up a guillotine! Lombard's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Craven is holding on here and Lombard must be using up a lot of energy. Craven has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Lombard gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
