2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Axel Sanchez! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shepherd shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sanchez defends it nicely. Sanchez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Sanchez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sanchez wants it to stay on the feet. Shepherd closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanchez circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tomas Shepherd. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shepherd looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Sanchez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sanchez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Shepherd really is a fat lump. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Shepherd manages to get back to half guard. Shepherd missing with punches from the bottom.
Shepherd tries to roll over but Sanchez keeps him under control. Sanchez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shepherd moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez looking to sit in guard and control but Shepherd gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Shepherd from controlling successfully. Sanchez is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Shepherd dives into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Shepherd content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Sanchez struggling a bit here. Sanchez bucks up and tries to throw Shepherd off but instead Shepherd has got his back! Shepherd slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shepherd patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Sanchez can't escape the position.

Sanchez remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Shepherd will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Shepherd wants to control but Sanchez is keeping busy. Good control from Shepherd. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sanchez holding both Shepherd 's hands and preventing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shepherd bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Shepherd is trying to get an arm triangle but Sanchez is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shepherd is working to tighten his grip on Sanchez's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Sanchez has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Shepherd is really squeezing tight and eventually Sanchez passes out! Shepherd breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
