Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeffery Mejia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Vasyliev!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mejia is defended easily by Vasyliev.

Vasyliev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vasyliev lands in his opponent's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mejia being controlled here, momentarily.
Mejia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vasyliev on the ground.

Vasyliev controls Mejia momentarily but Mejia frees himself.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Aleksander Vasyliev wasn't active enough on the ground.

Vasyliev drives through with a takedown into Mejia's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Vasyliev is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mejia sees it coming and defends easily.

Vasyliev is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mejia defends it well.
Mejia is looking to improve his position.
Vasyliev is trying to control. Mejia wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Vasyliev takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Vasyliev looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mejia with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aleksander Vasyliev dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Vasyliev takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Mejia gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mejia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vasyliev manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mejia got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vasyliev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mejia has managed to get both his arms back between Vasyliev's legs - danger averted.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vasyliev is trying to keep Mejia in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vasyliev wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mejia manages to pass to side control.

Vasyliev is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mejia pulls his head out easily.

Vasyliev is trying to control but can't.
Vasyliev looks like he's trying to stand up.
Vasyliev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mejia is working away from the top position though.
Vasyliev slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Mejia postures up.

Vasyliev is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Mejia frees his head nicely. Oh but Vasyliev has switched to an armbar! Mejia is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
