Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Maphingr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tsuyoshi Shibasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Maphingr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tsuyoshi Shibasaki!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maphingr throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Shibasaki was covering up waiting for the punch and Maphingr finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Maphingr wants to pass the guard but Shibasaki is keeping the position.
Maphingr is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Shibasaki is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Maphingr is aware though and is defending well.
Shibasaki looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Maphingr trying to control but Shibasaki is working from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maphingr looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Shibasaki is looking to control Maphingr but Maphingr is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Maphingr breaks Shibasaki's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Shibasaki has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Maphingr has passed into side control.

Maphingr thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Shibasaki tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Maphingr wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Shibasaki is trying to work for a sweep but Maphingr has mounted him!
Shibasaki tries to reverse the position but Maphingr maintains control.
Shibasaki keeps trying to improve his position.
Maphingr wants to stand but Shibasaki is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Shibasaki is trying desperately to improve position.
Maphingr looking to finish Shibasaki with some ground and pound. This is bad for Shibasaki!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shibasaki breaks Maphingr's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Maphingr throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Shibasaki wants to pass the guard but Maphingr is keeping the position.
Maphingr not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shibasaki won't allow Maphingr to get back to his feet.
Maphingr keeping moving, preventing Shibasaki from controlling successfully.

Maphingr shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Shibasaki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Shibasaki is looking to take a break and control but Maphingr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Paul Maphingr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shibasaki tries to pass to full mount but Maphingr defends it.
Maphingr wants to get back to his feet.

Shibasaki is trying to control the action in half guard but Maphingr is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Shibasaki thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maphingr's head.
Maphingr wants to get back to his feet.

Shibasaki is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Maphingr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shibasaki.

Shibasaki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maphingr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Shibasaki takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tsuyoshi Shibasaki wasn't active enough on the ground.
Maphingr with a lazy takedown attempt

and Shibasaki counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Maphingr!

Shibasaki is trying to get an arm triangle but Maphingr is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maphingr is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Shibasaki is controlling him well.

Shibasaki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Maphingr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Shibasaki wants to control for a moment but Maphingr uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Shibasaki wants to take a breather but Maphingr is having none of it.
Maphingr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Shibasaki forces his way into half guard.
Maphingr won't allow Shibasaki to pass to mount.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shibasaki frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Shibasaki looking to control but Maphingr is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Tsuyoshi Shibasaki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

so Shibasaki counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Shibasaki tries to free his leg and advance position but Maphingr is retaining full guard.
Maphingr manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shibasaki manages to get himself to full guard.

Shibasaki is just holding on here. Maphingr manages to take his back.

Maphingr tries to get the hooks in deep but Shibasaki pushed the leg off.

Maphingr is not going to allow Shibasaki to sit and survive in this position.
You can see the frustration on Shibasaki's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Maphingr's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

I would just about give that final round to Tsuyoshi Shibasaki.
