PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Braun Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Diego Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Braun Silva!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez rushes Silva and presses him up against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Sanchez.
We've been hearing reports that Sanchez has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Sanchez swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Silva blocks a body shot from Sanchez.
Sanchez lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Silva backwards.
Sanchez misses with some punches.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Silva has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Silva is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sanchez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Sanchez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.

Sanchez is trying to get an arm triangle but Silva is defending well.
Sanchez scores with a couple of short elbows.
Silva is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sanchez connects with a decent elbow.
Sanchez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.
Sanchez lands an elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Silva is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Silva is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanchez works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Sanchez cracks Silva with a big right hand but Silva just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Sanchez is looking to take a break and control but Silva is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Silva is looking for a sweep.

Sanchez lands some shots froms side control.
Silva manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sanchez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Silva has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Sanchez escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Sanchez!
Silva looks winded!
Sanchez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Sanchez dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Silva fails to land with a series of punches.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Silva jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sanchez walks away with a smile on his face. Silva gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Silva doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Sanchez lands with a shot to the body.
A punch combination from Silva misses.
A slapping body kick lands there for Sanchez.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sanchez changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Sanchez lands a big right hand that sends Silva crashing to the mat! Sanchez stays standing though and waves Silva back to his feet!


It looks like Braun Silva has been cut.
Silva is breathing heavily.

Sanchez closes the distance and pushes Silva back into the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sanchez scores with a shoulder strike.
The referee is keeping an eye on Sanchez - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
A body shot lands from Sanchez.
Silva's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Sanchez creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Silva with a big uppercut! Silva tries to clinch up but Sanchez pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Silva to the mat! Silva covers up and Sanchez unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Diego Sanchez!
