The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Liete counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mendoza shoots in for a takedown but Liete shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Mendoza darts in looking for a takedown but Liete gets double underhooks and turns Mendoza into the cage.
Liete cracks Mendoza with a nice body shot.
Stalling in the clinch from Liete.
Liete breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've been informed that Liete has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Mendoza's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Liete connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Mendoza scrambles back to his feet.
Mendoza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Liete avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marvin Mendoza. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendoza seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Liete shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Mendoza is backing up but Liete catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Mendoza covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Liete Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tonis Liete!
