Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cole River (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jurmas Uusisto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think River might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Creedence Clearwater Revival - Born On The Bayou. Uusisto has chosen System Of A Down - B.Y.O.B. as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Cole River! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
30 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Jurmas Uusisto! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Uusisto throws a leg kick and River counters with a right hand to the body. River throws a leg kick that misses. River misses with a low kick. River fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Uusisto looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. River swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Uusisto looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? River is fending him off so far but Uusisto persists. Nope, River circles away and we're back to standing. We've been informed that Uusisto has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. River lands a head kick. Uusisto smiles back at him and beckons him forward. River lands with a thumping leg kick.
A good leg kick by River. River tries to move into range but Uusisto moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. River swings for the body but Uusisto moves out of range.
Uusisto looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for River! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Uusisto is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, River has escaped the position, nice work there. Uusisto trying to control the position but River is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. River is looking to regain half guard here but Uusisto keeps moving and retains side control. River is trying to control Uusisto's posture but Uusisto avoids it. River gets back to half guard. River is looking for a sweep. Uusisto is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Uusisto seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but River does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Uusisto working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. River is refusing to be controlled, as Uusisto sits in half guard.

Uusisto content to control rather than advance. Uusisto wants to take a breather but River is having none of it. River tries to get to full guard but Uusisto has control of the leg. River on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Uusisto wants to pass the guard but River is defending well. River makes his way to full guard. A much better position for River. Uusisto is in close to River's body, working some short punches and elbows.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Uusisto trying to control the position from guard on top but River is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. River wants to sweep but no luck. Uusisto makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. River tries to land a sweep but no joy. River avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. River controlling the position. Uusisto working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of River's head. Uusisto postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. River keeping full guard, as Uusisto tries to pass. River is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Uusisto won't allow River to sweep him here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. River uses the cage to get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action! A lazy body kick from River and Uusisto counters with a shoot takedown. River fights it but they end up in guard. Uusisto has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. River looking to control.
Uusisto pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. River is keeping the position for now. Uusisto controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Uusisto trying to control the position from guard on top but River is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Uusisto landing some decent shots from guard. River bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Uusisto's guard. River trying to control the position from guard on top but Uusisto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! River controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Uusisto is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jurmas Uusisto dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Uusisto lands a right hook to the body.
Uusisto misses with a low kick.
River dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Uusisto. That did some damage! River with a nice cross. Uusisto misses with a series of wild punches.
Uusisto blocks a jab. River throws a hook but Uusisto avoids it easily. River tries to land a front kick but Uusisto steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. River swings and misses with a hook to the body.
River tries to clinch up but Uusisto circles away and keeps his distance. Uusisto throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Left hook, right uppercut from Uusisto. Cole River seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Uusisto misses with a looping right. River throws a nice inside leg kick. River takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. River scores with a leg kick.
Uusisto lands a jab to the nose. Uusisto keeps the fight on the outside. Uusisto throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Uusisto takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. River throws a hook but Uusisto blocks it. Cole River is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Uusisto uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by River.
Uusisto ducks down and throws a hook to the body but River moves away. Uusisto misses with a looping left. Uusisto moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. River scoring well with a low kick there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. River lands an overhand right. Cole River is winning the standup battle so far. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. River thows a leg kick but Uusisto checks it so Uusisto counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Uusisto postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. River is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. River wants to sweep but no luck. Uusisto drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Uusisto jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. River wants to get back to his feet but Uusisto is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Uusisto pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. River is keeping the position for now. River working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Uusisto slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Uusisto tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. River sneaks back into half guard. River is pressing down on Uusisto's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as River holds on and takes a little breather. River has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. River avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Uusisto stopping the sweep attempt from River. River keeping moving, preventing Uusisto from controlling successfully. River looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Uusisto being controlled here momentarily. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We're going to have a standup here because Cole River wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Uusisto works the jab nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Cole River will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Uusisto shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. River defends it nicely. River digs a good hook to Uusisto's body.
A good leg kick by River. River throws a body punch but Uusisto moves out of range. River lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Uusisto at a distance.
River throws a body kick that misses and Uusisto counters with a nice double leg into guard. River is controlling Uusisto's posture. Uusisto trying to control the position from guard on top but River is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. River pulls Uusisto in to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! River controls Uusisto momentarily but Uusisto frees himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Uusisto stopping the sweep attempt from River. River will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Cole River just wasn't active enough. River is looking to clinch. River rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Uusisto counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for River! River is looking for a sweep. Uusisto advances nicely into full mount. Uusisto with the ground and pound from mount. River is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Uusisto is landing with some decent strikes but River is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. River really wants to buck Uusisto off and get back to his feet. Uusisto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as River is looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. River is trying desperately to improve position. River is working hard here to advance position. Uusisto looking to finish River with some ground and pound. This is bad for River! Uusisto avoids the attempt from River to control. Uusisto has control of River's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and River regains control of the situation pretty easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Uusisto lands a big shot there that rocks River but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
River is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Uusisto scoring with strikes but River is staying in there. Uusisto cracks River with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
River is rocked! River tries to hold on but Uusisto postures up. Oh River is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Uusisto unloads with some vicious shots from mount and River wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Uusisto celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jurmas Uusisto! Jurmas Uusisto is the new welterweight champion! An out of breath Jurmas Uusisto thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
