Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Meguru Takayanagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Steamboat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takayanagi's entrance music is All Rounder Meguru. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Meguru Takayanagi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricky Steamboat! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Takayanagi with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Takayanagi throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Takayanagi wants to clinch. Steamboat wants to slow Takayanagi down by chopping away at his legs. Takayanagi is looking to clinch but Steamboat is avoiding it.
Takayanagi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Steamboat as he jumps to the side. Takayanagi goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Steamboat looks to score with a jab to the body but Takayanagi is just out of range. Takayanagi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Steamboat as he jumps to the side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steamboat is looking to land body kicks. Takayanagi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Takayanagi scores with a hook to the body. Steamboat takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Steamboat has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Steamboat lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Steamboat throws a series of punches but Takayanagi moves out of range. Steamboat takes a swing at Takayanagi's ribcage but misses. Takayanagi throws a series of punches but Steamboat avoids them all with ease. The crowd cheers as Steamboat lands an impressive looking overhand right. Takayanagi doesn't seem phased though. Nice sprawl there from Steamboat as Takayanagi shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Meguru Takayanagi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A low kick from Takayanagi is predictable there and Steamboat counters with a nice low kick that buckles Takayanagi's knee momentarily. Steamboat lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Takayanagi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. This has been an exciting period of action! Steamboat is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Takayanagi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Takayanagi's back! Takayanagi trying to control the hands but Steamboat won't let him. Takayanagi is keeping busy.
What can Takayanagi do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Takayanagi looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Takayanagi tries to roll but Steamboat sticks to his back.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Steamboat's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Steamboat really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Takayanagi. You can see the frustration on Takayanagi's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Takayanagi is working hard here to advance position.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Steamboat misses with an elbow to the head. Takayanagi is taking damage to the body and head. I really don't envy Takayanagi right now.

Takayanagi is looking for a sweep. Steamboat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Takayanagi looking for submissions off his back. Steamboat working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Steamboat wants to control but Takayanagi is keeping him busy. We've been hearing good reports from Takayanagi's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Steamboat decides to stand and escape the position. Steamboat takes a kick to the side of the head. Steamboat moves forwards but Takayanagi connects with a nice, crisp jab. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Takayanagi throws the kick towards the body but Steamboat avoids it. Takayanagi chopping away at his opponent's legs.
A leg kick checked by Steamboat. Ricky Steamboat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Steamboat works over Takayanagi's head and body with a nice combination. Takayanagi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Steamboat doesn't manage to clinch there - Takayanagi circles away.
Takayanagi has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Steamboat. Takayanagi gets tackled into the ropes by Steamboat. Steamboat maintains the clinch. Steamboat dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the ropes. With the fighters up against the ropes, Steamboat throws an elbow but misses. A nice right hand lands inside from Steamboat. Steamboat lands a left hand.
Takayanagi blocks a body shot from Steamboat. Steamboat gets underhooks to prevent Takayanagi's takedown attempt.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Steamboat. Takayanagi scores with a shoulder strike. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Takayanagi as Steamboat tries to tie him up. A head punch on the inside from Takayanagi fails to land.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Takayanagi is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Steamboat is defending well. Takayanagi working hard to break the clinch. Steamboat lands a right hand. Steamboat lands an elbow that stopped Takayanagi in his tracks for a moment. Takayanagi breaks the clinch.
Takayanagi does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Steamboat throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Takayanagi.
Steamboat fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Takayanagi, pushing him back against the ropes. Still in the clinch, Steamboat scores with a nice short uppercut. Takayanagi is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes. Steamboat stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Takayanagi doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Steamboat makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Steamboat lands a right hand. Steamboat tries a body shot but Takayanagi blocks it.
Steamboat blocks a body shot from Takayanagi. Steamboat comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Steamboat misses with some punches.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Steamboat softening up his opponent with strikes, against the ropes. Steamboat misses with a punch to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takayanagi throws a sloppy head kick and Steamboat counters with a series of strikes. Takayanagi will be more careful next time no doubt.
Takayanagi is rocked! A looping hook to the body misses from Takayanagi. Steamboat does a little dance to reset his feet. Oh Takayanagi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Takayanagi throws a sloppy head kick and Steamboat moves out of range easily.

Steamboat is pawing at Takayanagi, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Takayanagi's nose. Takayanagi is badly hurt! Steamboat pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Takayanagi tries desperately to hold on but Steamboat is relentless in his assault! As Takayanagi receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Steamboat away and this one is in the books!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ricky Steamboat! Ricky Steamboat is the new featherweight champion!
