PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Gram (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gram has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jay Gram!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gram looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Walker trying to control but Gram is working from the bottom.
Walker throwing strikes but missing.
Walker looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jon Walker.

Gram closes the distance and clinches.

Walker wants the takedown. Gram is fighting it off but Walker persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gram's guard against the cage.
Walker is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gram swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Walker slips nicely into half guard.
Walker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gram has hold of Walker's hands but Walker slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Gram is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Gram is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Walker scores with a couple of nice shots.
Walker controlling the pace.
Walker has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Walker fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walker scoring with strikes but Gram is staying in there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Walker controlling from the full mount.

Walker looking for a guillotine from mount but Gram is having none of it.
Walker raining down hammerfists from mount.
Walker landing strikes from the mount and Gram is in trouble!

Walker working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Walker with shots to the head and body - Gram looks very uncomfortable down there.
Walker tries to control but Gram wriggling away.
Walker landing punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Walker has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gram's face.
Walker unloading with bombs!

Walker jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Gram manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Walker wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gram, who protects the arm well.
Gram is working to avoid the ground and pound but Walker connects with a decent elbow.

Walker is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gram is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gram takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.


Gram is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
You can see the frustration on Gram's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gram is still in real trouble! Can Walker finish him?
Walker is working Gram over with some ground and pound from side control.
Walker in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Gram looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Walker turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jon Walker!
In his post fight interview, Jon Walker started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
