Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Steve Menzies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshida Kotaro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kotaro has chosen Dance Yourself Clean as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Menzies!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Yoshida Kotaro!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Ron Honeybunn and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Menzies misses with a looping right.
Kotaro is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Menzies throws a lazy head kick
and Kotaro cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kotaro uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Menzies.
Menzies feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kotaros jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Menzies tries to clinch but Kotaro is having none of it.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Kotaro checks a leg kick.
Steve Menzies seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kotaro tries to sprawl but Menzies drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Kotaro is staying active underneath Menzies, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Menzies connects with a nice short shot to Kotaro's temple.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well, if Menzies is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Kotaro wants to improve his position but Menzies is controlling well.

Menzies has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kotaro won't allow Menzies to pass to mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kotaro is looking to control Menzies's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kotaro avoid being mounted?
Menzies is looking to take a break and control but Kotaro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Kotaro throws an overhand right that lands on Menzies's shoulder, as Menzies tries to avoid the shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Menzies misses with a low kick as Kotaro jumps back.
Menzies looks to land a left hand but Kotaro moved out of range nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Menzies is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Kotaro's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Menzies has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kotaro avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Menzies lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kotaro is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Menzies is keeping busy.
Kotaro looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Menzies lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Kotaro backwards.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Kotaro lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Menzies or not.
Kotaro looking to throw knees to the head but Menzies is blocking nicely.

Menzies bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kotaro's guard.

Steve Menzies overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Menzies sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kotaro's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Menzies is trying to control. Kotaro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Menzies winds up and cracks Kotaro with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Kotaro avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Menzies.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Menzies wants to pass to mount but Kotaro is defending the position.
Kotaro tries to kick Menzies off but Menzies keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Steve Menzies will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Kotaro throws a jab but it's blocked by Menzies.

Menzies swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kotaro swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Menzies.
Menzies throws a jab when Kotaro was well out of range.
Menzies throws a right and a left that both miss.

Menzies thows a leg kick but Kotaro checks it
and Kotaro counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Menzies connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Menzies scores with a jab. Kotaro acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Menzies fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kotaro misses with a body punch
and Kotaro takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.


Kotaro is rocked!
Menzies cracks Kotaro with a hook to the temple - Kotaro is on wobbly legs here! Menzies swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Kotaro falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Menzies wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Steve Menzies!
Steve Menzies decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
