Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rogelio Abel Mastropardi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andrew Coulter! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mastropardi shoots in and gets a takedown into Coulter's guard. Mastropardi is looking to work some ground and pound but Coulter has wrist control. Mastropardi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Coulter dives on top into guard. Mastropardi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mastropardi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Coulter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mastropardi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mastropardi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Coulter defends well. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mastropardi has his foot on Coulter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Coulter works his way back into a safe position though. Coulter tries to free his leg and advance position but Mastropardi is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coulter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mastropardi is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mastropardi has escaped and now he's on top! Mastropardi trying to control the position from guard on top but Coulter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Coulter wants to stand up but Mastropardi is controlling him. Mastropardi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mastropardi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Coulter dives on top into guard. Coulter has gone for a leg lock! Mastropardi slips out almost immediately though and dives into Coulter's guard. Coulter looks winded! Mastropardi wants to pass the guard but Coulter is keeping the position. Mastropardi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Coulter is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Coulter has escaped and now he's on top! Mastropardi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Coulter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mastropardi looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mastropardi looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mastropardi! Mastropardi is trying to ground and pound but Coulter uses the momentary lack of control by Mastropardi to regain half guard. Coulter is trying to stand.
Mastropardi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Coulter is just riding it out for now. Mastropardi eventually gives up the hold.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mastropardi looks to land a strike but Coulter avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Mastropardi has gone for a leg lock! Coulter slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mastropardi's guard. Mastropardi managing to control the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Coulter postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mastropardi is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Coulter, into his guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rogelio Abel Mastropardi dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Mastropardi takes the fight into the clinch. Coulter pulls guard effortlessly. Mastropardi wants to control from the top but Coulter keeps moving. Coulter keeping full guard, as Mastropardi tries to pass. Mastropardi landing with the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mastropardi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mastropardi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Coulter dives on top into guard. Mastropardi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Coulter postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mastropardi is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Coulter, into his guard. Coulter is breathing heavily. Mastropardi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Coulter manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mastropardi has Coulter in his guard. Mastropardi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mastropardi is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mastropardi is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Coulter rolls with it to try and escape but Mastropardi cranks on the arm and Coulter is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
