PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Jack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Roger Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Jack!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jack throws a right and a left that Burns avoids nicely.
Jack tries a head kick but it misses.
Jack throws a nice looking combination but Burns bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jack should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jack thows a body shot but no joy.

Burns moves into range and clinches up with Jack.

Burns wants the takedown. Jack is fighting it off but Burns persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jack's guard against the cage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Burns stands and steps away. Jack gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Burns looks to land a body kick but Jack moved away.
Jack avoids the body shot from Burns.
Burns slips a jab and a cross from Jack.
Jack swinging wildly here.
A combination from Jack does no damage.

Burns clinches.

Burns pulls guard.
Burns is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Burns will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Burns working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jack doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jack manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Burns is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jack is controlling him.
Burns is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jack slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Jack thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jack trying to stand up but can't free himself from Burns's guard.
Jack looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Jack is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Burns looking to control.
Jack trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A clash of legs there as Jack blocks the low kick.
Jack looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Burns throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jack was covering up waiting for the punch and Burns finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Jack is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Burns showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burns looking to pass the guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jack throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Burns counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Burns closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Burns decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jack to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jack checks a leg kick nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Burns looking to score a takedown here. Jack is defending well but Burns drives through and ends up in Jack's guard.
Burns wants to pass the guard but Jack is keeping the position.

Burns thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roger Burns dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Burns bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Burns is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jack has escaped the position, nice work there.

Burns looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
An elbow from Burns crashes against the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burns wants to control but Jack is keeping him busy.
Burns is trying to ground and pound but Jack uses the momentary lack of control by Burns to regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Burns looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jack is looking to control Burns's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jack avoid being mounted?

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burns works his foot free and advances to mount.
Burns controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burns throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Burns wants to control the pace but Jack is squirming around nicely.
Jack tries to hold on but Burns postures up.
Burns looking to control but Jack is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roger Burns dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Burns throws a head kick but Jack moves out of range.
Jack looks to land a right hand but Burns moved out of range.
Jack throws a right and a left that both miss.

Burns closes the distance and clinches.
Burns misses with some punches.
Burns stalling.
Burns using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Jack has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Jack tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Burns's elbow.
Burns scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Jack wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Burns has him pressed against the cage.

Burns drags the fight down to the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jack stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Burns lands a jab-cross combination.
Burns takes a swing at Jack's ribcage but misses.
Good exchange - Jack coming out on top.

Burns closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Burns lands in his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Burns is looking to work some ground and pound but Jack has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jack takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Burns throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jack works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burns trying to control but Jack is working from the bottom.

Roger Burns has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Burns shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jack manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Burns tries to free his leg and advance position but Jack is retaining full guard.
Burns wants to control from the top but Jack keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Roger Burns.

Burns gets a clinch.

Burns pulls guard.
Burns working a defensive guard here.

Burns pushes Jack off and scrambles back to his feet.

Burns closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jack quickly recovers to half guard.
Burns looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jack is not content to let Burns control the position.
Michael Jack has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Burns is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Burns is just content to waste time from the top position. Jack takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Roger Burns showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Burns has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Roger Burns decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
