Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Red Bull! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Bastedo! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Bastedo tries for a takedown but Bull circles away easily and Bull counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bastedo won't be happy with that. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Bull is working Bastedo over with some ground and pound from side control. Bastedo keeping his opponent close. Bastedo tries to improve position but can't. Bull in side control, just content to control the action for now. Bastedo is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bull in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Bull working away. Bull controls the position. The strikes coming from Bull are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Bull happy to just control the position for now. Bull connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Bastedo some visible discomfort.
Bastedo is trying to control Bull's posture but Bull avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The ground and pound from Bull seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Bastedo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Bastedo works his way to full guard. Good work. Bull trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Bull controlling from the top position. Bull has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bastedo keeping moving, preventing Bull from controlling successfully.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Red Bull. Nice takedown defense from Bull. No joy for Bastedo on that attempt. Bull misses with a straight left. Bull uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bastedo has time to react.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bastedo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bull sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Red Bull has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Bastedo. Bastedo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Bastedo tries to clinch but Bull is having none of it. Bastedo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Bull lands with an uppercut that bounces Bastedo off the cage and back into range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Red Bull dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Bastedo is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Justin Bastedo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bastedo shoots and misses and Bull counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bull. Bull trying to control the position from guard on top but Bastedo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bull is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Bull wants to control from the top but Bastedo keeps moving. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Bull not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Red Bull just wasn't active enough. Bastedo looks to clinch and Bull counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bastedo is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Bull rolls with it to try and escape but Bastedo cranks on the arm and Bull is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
