Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daren Lopez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tiger Khaybulaev! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Lopez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Khaybulaev paws at him with a jab and circles away. Lopez fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Khaybulaev on the side of the head. Lopez throws a head kick but Khaybulaev moves out of range.
Lopez is looking to clinch but Khaybulaev is avoiding it.
Lopez misses with the combination.
Khaybulaev swats away the attempt to clinch by Lopez.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lopez tries a head kick but it misses.
Lopez moves into the clinch. Lopez breaks from the clinch.
Lopez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lopez misses with a two punch combination.
Lopez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Khaybulaev avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lopez tries to bum rush Khaybulaev with a series of wild strikes but Khaybulaev uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Lopez scores with a nice strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lopez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lopez moves to clinch but Khaybulaev breaks away so Khaybulaev counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Khaybulaev is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Khaybulaev passes Lopez's left leg - he's now in half guard. Khaybulaev is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lopez is just riding it out for now. Khaybulaev eventually gives up the hold. Khaybulaev is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Lopez has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Khaybulaev seems to be looking for submissions.
Lopez is trying to control but can't.
Khaybulaev should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Khaybulaev is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Lopez is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
