Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jermain Leaseau! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Seth Halmann! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Bart Greer and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leaseau tries to clinch but Halmann moves away and Halmann counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Halmann. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Leaseau is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Leaseau seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Leaseau wants to sweep but no luck. Halmann is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Halmann's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Leaseau is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Seth Halmann wasn't active enough on the ground. Leaseau is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leaseau fails with a takedown attempt. Leaseau fails with the takedown and Halmann counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Halmann. I was talking to Leaseau's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Halmann tries to pull guard but Leaseau holds him up against the cage and eventually Halmann drops back down to his feet.
Halmann has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Leaseau is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Leaseau lands a shot to the body. Halmann is looking to take this one to the mat. Jermain Leaseau has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seth Halmann. Halmann has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Leaseau after a bit of a struggle. Leaseau misses with a punch to the body.
Halmann pulls guard effortlessly. Leaseau trying to control the position from guard on top but Halmann is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Halmann should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Leaseau tries to free his leg and advance position but Halmann is retaining full guard. Halmann working a defensive guard here.
Leaseau trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Halmann keeping moving, preventing Leaseau from controlling successfully. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Leaseau accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Leaseau looking to sit in guard and control but Halmann gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Leaseau looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Halmann won't allow Leaseau to sweep him here. Leaseau controls Halmann momentarily but Halmann frees himself. Leaseau keeping moving, preventing Halmann from controlling successfully. Leaseau is trying to control the position but Halmann postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Halmann wants to pass the guard but Leaseau is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Halmann stays in close to Leaseau's body and controls the position. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Leaseau is looking to clinch. Leaseau fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Halmann manages to avoid it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Leaseau scores with a crisp jab that stopped Halmann in his tracks. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jermain Leaseau will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Leaseau shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Leaseau tries to clinch and Halmann counters with a single leg into guard. Leaseau didn't expect that. Leaseau controls Halmann momentarily but Halmann frees himself. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Leaseau keeping moving, preventing Halmann from controlling successfully. We've been informed that Halmann has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Leaseau lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Halmann! Halmann is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Halmann is still trying to improve position. Poor strikes thrown by Leaseau there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Leaseau can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Halmann is looking to escape. Leaseau takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Leaseau is working for a guillotine from mount but Halmann frees his head quite easily.
Leaseau punishing his opponent with strikes. Leaseau looking to control but Halmann is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Leaseau fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Leaseau throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Leaseau misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The referee warns Halmann that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Halmann is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Jermain Leaseau overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Halmann is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
A nice elbow there by Leaseau. Leaseau lands a couple of good shots and Halmann has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Leaseau tries to keep control of the position but Halmann is staying busy.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Leaseau's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
This has been an exciting period of action! Leaseau throws a series of strikes and Halmann wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Leaseau controlling the pace for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jermain Leaseau dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Leaseau tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Halmann manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Nice takedown defense from Halmann. No joy for Leaseau on that attempt. Leaseau dives in for a single leg takedown but Halmann sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Halmann tries to pull guard but Leaseau holds him up against the cage and eventually Halmann drops back down to his feet.

Halmann won't allow Leaseau to sweep him here. Halmann tries to free his leg and advance position but Leaseau is retaining full guard. Leaseau wants to sweep here but Halmann controlling him for the moment. Leaseau not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Halmann wants to control from the top but Leaseau keeps moving. Leaseau can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Halmann controls the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Seth Halmann. Leaseau dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Halmann takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Leaseau throws a body kick that misses. Leaseau misses with a wild combination.

Leaseau tries to clinch but Halmann moves out of range. Leaseau rushes Halmann and presses him up against the cage. Leaseau wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jermain Leaseau. That's going to take a lot out of him. Halmann fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A short body shot lands from Leaseau as the two fighters clinch.
Seth Halmann has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Leaseau pulls guard successfully.
And that's the end of the fight! Jermain Leaseau showed his dominance in that final round. Well Leaseau has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
