PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Clay Moore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Clay Moore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rafael Silva!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Moore swivels and escapes.
Silva has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Moore pinned against the cage. Moore gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Silva takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Silva moves in looking to clinch but Moore pushes him off.
Silva closes the distance but Moore moves to the side
and Moore connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch but Moore swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Moore as he jumps to the side.
Clay Moore has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rafael Silva.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silva.
Silva doesn't manage to clinch there - Moore circles away.

Silva drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Silva won't allow Moore to get back to his feet.
Silva pushing down on Moore's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Silva looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Moore with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Moore wants to get back to his feet.
Silva landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Silva wants to work for an arm triangle but Moore is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Moore is pressing down on Silva's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Silva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Moore preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Silva controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Silva wants to control from the top but Moore keeps moving.
Moore wants to stand and escape but Silva is having none of it.

Moore is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rafael Silva was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Moore keeps the fight on the outside.
Silva darts in trying to clinch
and Silva takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Moore leaves Silva with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Silva is looking to clinch.
Rafael Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Moore avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Silva.
Moore can't do much from the bottom here.

Moore is trying to get back to his feet.
Silva advances nicely into full mount.
Moore is squirming around, avoiding Silva's attempts to control the action.
Moore is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Silva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The referee warns Moore that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Moore bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

The fighters are working up against the cage. Silva manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rafael Silva dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A big left from Silva misses.
Silva closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Silva misses with a body kick.
Moore lunges at Silva with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Silva's hand.
Silva fails with an attempt to clinch.
Silva tries to clinch up.
Silva fails with the takedown.
Silva avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Silva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Moore circles away.
Silva dives in and grabs Moore's left leg, looking for a takedown. Moore pushes down on Silva's head and hops out.
Clay Moore has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rafael Silva.
Silva drops his hands momentarily and Moore takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Moore moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Rafael Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Moore counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Moore keeps the fight on the outside.
Silva changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Moore tries to avoid it but Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Moore to the ground. Moore escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Silva is looking to clinch.
Silva wants to clinch but Moore slips to the side
and Moore counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Moore circles away from the clinch attempt.

Silva closes the distance and pushes Moore back into the cage.

Moore manages to break the clinch.
Moore moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Moore's waist but Moore gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.

Moore throws a solid leg kick but Silva takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Moore.
Silva dives in for a single leg takedown but Moore sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Silva drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Silva has Moore pressed against the cage, preventing Moore from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Silva is looking to take this one to the mat.

Moore is trying to force a seperation but Silva has the dominant position.

Moore's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Silva doesn't manage to clinch there - Moore circles away.
Moore swats away the attempt to clinch by Silva.

and Moore connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Silva on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
The crowd cheers as Moore lands an impressive looking overhand right. Silva doesn't seem phased though.

Moore lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Moore avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Silva misses with a double jab
and Moore counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Silva wants to clinch.
Moore slaps away a takedown attempt from Silva, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Silva has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Moore finds it's way round the side to connect with Silva's head.
Moore lands with an overhand left.
It looks like Moore has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Moore connects with a body shot.
Silva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Moore circles away.
Silva tries to clinch up but Moore circles away and keeps his distance.
Moore stuffs the takedown attempt from Silva. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Moore feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Silvas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Silva lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Moore has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Moore and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Silva shoots in but Moore avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Silva shoots in for a takedown but Moore shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Silva seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Moore shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Silva is backing up but Moore catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Silva covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Moore Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Clay Moore!
Clay Moore seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
