Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Billy Best! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Shadow! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shadow getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Shadow closes the distance and clinches. Best really is a fat lump. Shadow has picked Best up - he's going for a ride! Shadow dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Best is in trouble now - Shadow has advanced to mount! Best might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Best is desperately trying to improve his position but Shadow has a good base and remains in mount. Shadow controlling the position easily from mount. Best tries to hold on but Shadow postures up. Best is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Shadow is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Best is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Shadow trying to control but Best is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Best tries to hold on but Shadow pushes him away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Best blocking the ground and pound. Shadow throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Shadow is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Best is surviving well by controlling Shadow's body position as best he can. Best is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Best working to try and regain half guard.
Poor strikes thrown by Shadow there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

That's three minutes gone in the round. It looks like Shadow might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Best is squirming around, avoiding Shadow's attempts to control the action. Best wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Shadow.

Best shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shadow but Shadow pushes him off and we're back to square one. Shadow gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Best to score an easy takedown into full guard. Best landing some decent shots from guard. Best loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Shadow trying to control the position from guard on top but Best is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Shadow might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Best haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Marcelo Shadow. Shadow tries to clinch there but Best circles away.
Billy Best is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Best tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shadow swats him away and circles back towards the center. Shadow throws a head kick that misses. Best tries to bum rush Shadow with a series of wild strikes but Shadow uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Best keeps the fight on the outside. Best has a takedown stuffed. Best moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Shadow misses with a body shot
and Best counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Shadow shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Shadow wants to pass to mount but Best is defending the position. Shadow passes to side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Best wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! A lull in the action here as Shadow stalls from top position. Shadow tries to score with some ground and pound. Best controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Best wants to control but Shadow postures up. Shadow is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Best knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Shadow working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marcelo Shadow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Best's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!
Best is looking to take this fight into the clinch. The fighters circling - Shadow throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Shadow throws a head kick that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shadow misses with the combination.
Shadow fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Best to the ground. Shadow is now in Best's guard.

Shadow swats away the attempt to clinch by Best. Shadow shoots in and gets a takedown into Best's guard. Best looking for a sweep. Not yet Best, not yet. Shadow trying to control the position from guard on top but Best is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Best trying to control the position here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Shadow scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Shadow takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Best wants to get back to his feet.

Best is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Shadow is looking to escape.
Marcelo Shadow has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Best throws a head kick but Shadow moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Shadow. No joy for Best on that attempt. Best shoots in for a takedown but Shadow shows good takedown defense. Shadow throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Billy Best has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Marcelo Shadow is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Shadow is trying to stand.
And that's the end of the fight! Marcelo Shadow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Shadow has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
