Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Carlos De Souza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tyrone Woodley! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De Souza walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. De Souza misses with a lunging right hand
and Woodley counters with a nice double leg into side control. De Souza won't be happy with that. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Woodley tries to move into full mount but can't pass De Souza's legs. Woodley wants to lay and pray for a moment but De Souza keeps working. Woodley landing strikes. De Souza tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Woodley wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Woodley wants to control but De Souza is keeping him busy. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! De Souza prevents Woodley from moving into mount. De Souza gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Woodley prevents De Souza from improving his position. Woodley trying to control from half guard but De Souza is working away. Woodley takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
That's one minute gone in the round. De Souza regains full guard. Nicely done. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. De Souza controlling the position. De Souza is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Woodley has his hands clasped together but De Souza extends and breaks Woodley's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by De Souza.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Carlos De Souza! Carlos De Souza decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
