Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre Laprise! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Pla! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laprise looking for a takedown here - he's got it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Pla wants to stand but Laprise is controlling the position. Pla keeping moving, preventing Laprise from controlling successfully. Pla can't keep his opponent in guard - Laprise advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Pla wants to get back to his feet.
Laprise could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Laprise performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Laprise works his way into full mount! Laprise trying to control but he's not successful this time. Pla is trying to stand up. Pla taking shots to the head. BOOM! Laprise connects with a massive shot to the dome!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Laprise controlling from mount.

Laprise wants to finish this one by submission but Pla is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Laprise. Laprise is landing with some decent strikes but Pla is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Laprise jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Pla manages to avoid the submission attempt. Laprise tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Pla is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Laprise is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pla knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Laprise decides to stand back up. Pla has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pla tries to clinch but Laprise moves away and Laprise counters with a nice body shot. Pla darts in trying to clinch and Laprise counters with a takedown into side control. Laprise looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Laprise has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Pla is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Laprise yanks on the arm and Pla is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Laprise.
