PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Martti Molski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregory Scarpa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martti Molski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gregory Scarpa!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Molski catches Scarpa with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Molski misses with a hook. Scarpa ducked under it nicely.
Scarpa misses with a looping left.
Molski dips to his left and cracks Scarpa with an uppercut!
Scarpa throws a chopping leg kick but Molski manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Scarpa scores with a kick to the body.
Molski connects with a body shot that sends Scarpa's belly button to the back.
Molski slaps away a takedown attempt from Scarpa, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Scarpa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Molski counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Molski sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Scarpa defending well though.
Molski wants to control but Scarpa is keeping him busy.
Scarpa tries to roll over but Molski keeps him under control.

Scarpa actively working from the bottom here.
Molski wants to lay and pray for a moment but Scarpa keeps working.

Molski tries to pass to full mount but Scarpa defends it.
Molski controlling the action here.
Molski working the head and body with strikes.
Scarpa won't allow Molski to pass to mount.
Molski moves into full mount! Scarpa won't be happy about that!
Molski prevents Scarpa from getting the reversal.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Scarpa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Molski looking to control but Scarpa is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Molski jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Scarpa is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Scarpa and Molski has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Scarpa is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Molski in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Molski trying to control the position but Scarpa is working away.
Scarpa tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Molski wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Molski cracks Scarpa with a big elbow.
Scarpa is not content to let Molski control the position.
Scarpa taking punishment in the form of punches.
Molski wants to control but Scarpa is keeping him busy.
Scarpa defending against the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Molski wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Scarpa, who protects the arm well.
Scarpa is looking for a sweep.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Molski cracks Scarpa with a big elbow.
Scarpa sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Scarpa avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Molski.

Scarpa looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Molski is looking for a kimura but Scarpa is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Molski to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martti Molski dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Scarpa thows a body shot but no joy.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Molski.
Molski throws a hook but Scarpa avoids it easily.
Molski lands an overhand right.
Scarpa is looking to chop away at Molski's legs.

Molski fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Scarpa to the ground. Molski is now in Scarpa's guard.

Scarpa pushes a forearm under Molski's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Molski is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gregory Scarpa!
During a confident post fight interview, Gregory Scarpa thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
