Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, John McNamara! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
30 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Batts! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Darius Henderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Batts scoring well with a low kick there.
Batts throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. McNamara just misses with a punch to the body.
Batts feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to McNamara's calf. McNamara ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Batts moves away. Batts is looking to slow McNamara down with leg kicks. McNamara gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A lazy left from Batts finds it's target. McNamara fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Batts lands with a kick to the temple. McNamara shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Batts wants to slow McNamara down by chopping away at his legs. Batts avoids the body shot from McNamara.
McNamara tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Batts was well out of range. Poor timing from McNamara. Batts rushes McNamara and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. McNamara managing to block the knees to the body from Batts.
McNamara is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Batts lands a good knee to the midsection. McNamara won't want to take too many of those.
That's one minute gone in the round. McNamara tries to circle away but Batts has him pinned against the cage. Batts connects with a knee to the head.

McNamara has had enough of the clinch but Batts keeps him there for the moment. McNamara wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Batts lands a right hand that snaps the head of McNamara backwards. Batts lands a body punch. I was talking to McNamara's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. A shot in the inside from Batts. Batts has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. So far he's outscoring his opponent in the clinch so it seems to have been worthwhile. McNamara leaning his opponent against the cage. Batts throws a blind hook that connects with the side of McNamaras head. McNamara blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McNamara tries to circle away but Batts has him pinned against the cage. McNamara can't break the clinch.

Batts is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McNamara is defending well for now. Batts struggles to land a body shot inside as McNamara controls his hands.

This has been an exciting period of action! A frustrated look appears on McNamara's face as he tries to break the clinch. McNamara tries to break free but Batts pushes him back against the cage. McNamara looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Batts using the Thai plumb to throw knees but McNamara has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Batts. McNamara blocking some punches.
Batts throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Batts tries to land a knee to the head but McNamara blocks with his arms.
Batts swings away with an uppercut that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McNamara takes a shot to the head. McNamara managing to block the knees to the body from Batts.
A shot in the inside from Batts. Batts throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but McNamara blocks it with crossed arms. Batts misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from McNamara.
Batts lands with a short shot to the head. Batts tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Oh McNamara is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Batts working McNamara over with knees to the body. McNamara seems to have got his legs back now. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Batts tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
McNamara has had enough of the clinch but Batts keeps him there for the moment. Batts with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
McNamara breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! McNamara ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. McNamara fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Batts manages to avoid it. Some bone on bone action there as McNamara checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Billy Batts dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Batts wants to land a leg kick but McNamara is out of range. Batts takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. McNamara connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
It looks like Billy Batts has been cut. McNamara on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Batts looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Batts.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. McNamara lands with a good body shot. McNamara just misses with a punch to the body.
McNamara misses with an uppercut. Batts saw that one coming. McNamara checks a low kick from Batts. McNamara looks to score with a jab to the body but Batts is just out of range. Billy Batts seems to be getting the better of the standup. McNamara lands a nice shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round. The crowd cheers as Batts lands an impressive looking overhand right. McNamara doesn't seem phased though. Batts with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling McNamara to score with a decent uppercut. McNamara misses the shot to the body. McNamara throws a hook but Batts blocks it. Batts turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. McNamara blocks a head kick by Batts.
Batts throws a body punch but McNamara moves out of range. McNamara takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. McNamara misses with a body shot.
McNamara throws out a token jab with nothing on it. McNamara gets cracked there but stands up to it.

That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Batts tries to close the distance and clinch up but McNamara swats him away and circles back towards the center. Batts staying out of range there. McNamara misses with a hook
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. McNamara jabbing away but nothing is landing. McNamara misses with a left hand and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Batts scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Batts connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Batts keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Batts dips to his left and cracks McNamara with an uppercut! McNamara scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Batts lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Batts fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and McNamara has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. McNamara misses with a hook. Batts ducked under it nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McNamara throws a body punch but Batts moves out of range. McNamara lands a slapping body shot.
McNamara moves out of range of the leg kick from Batts. Batts avoids a lazy jab quite easily. McNamara is looking to wear down Batts with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Batts thows a body kick. McNamara tries to catch it but that hurt him. Batts tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Batts bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps McNamara's head backwards. McNamara misses with an uppercut. Batts saw that one coming. The fighters circle momentarily. Batts darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Batts lands a big head kick that sends McNamara tumbling to the mat! Batts takes a step backwards and waves McNamara back to his feet - he wants the finish! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Batts keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from McNamara. Batts throws a nice inside leg kick. McNamara scores with a nice strike. Batts scores with a nice right hand.
McNamara misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Batts.
McNamara is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A nice inside leg kick there by Batts. That's going to slow McNamara down. Batts throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McNamara sees it coming and avoids it easily. Batts throws a nice inside leg kick. Batts connects with a leg kick. McNamara looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. McNamara tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Batts was well out of range. Poor timing from McNamara. Batts works the jab nicely. Batts walks into a stiff left hand from McNamara. Batts connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. McNamara thuds a left hand into Batts's body. A leg kick checked by McNamara. Batts lands a really nice looking cross but McNamara seems unphased.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! McNamara looks to score with a jab to the body but Batts is just out of range. Batts fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Batts cracks McNamara with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! McNamara looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Batts finish him?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Billy Batts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Billy Batts's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
