The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venger lands a lovely overhand right.

It looks like Mark Hanlon has been cut.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Venger is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hanlon.

Hanlon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Venger manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hanlon throws a big right hand that misses.
Venger pulls Hanlon in close to prevent any damage.

Hanlon drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Venger manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hanlon has Venger in his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hanlon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Venger.
Venger wants to get up but he can't break Hanlon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Venger is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Venger definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Vladimir Venger just wasn't active enough.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hanlon.

Venger throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hanlon looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Venger leaves Hanlon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Vladimir Venger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Hanlon.
