Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Simons III (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves has chosen Trik Turner - Friends and Family as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simons III shoots in for a takedown but Alves shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Alves throws a right and a left that both miss.

Alves tries to sprawl but Simons III drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Alves tries to roll over but Simons III keeps him under control.

Simons III is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Simons III is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Alves is just riding it out for now. Simons III eventually gives up the hold.

We've been hearing good reports from Simons III's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
