Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Bishop! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Trev Hartley! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hartley stuffs the takedown attempt from Bishop. Bishop gets slowly back to his feet. Hartley misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bishop avoids a punch combination nicely.
No luck for Bishop with that takedown attempt. No luck for Hartley with that takedown attempt. Hartley lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Bishop fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Bishop. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hartley throws a right and a left that both miss. Decent striking displayed by Hartley there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hartley misses with a few strikes there.
Hartley tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hartley misses with a kick to the body.
Hartley tries to sprawl but Bishop drives through with a takedown into half guard. Hartley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Bishop is keen to just control but Hartley is a slippery customer. Bishop trying to mount his opponent but Hartley defends it. Hartley wants to get back to his feet.
Bishop could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Bishop is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hartley is just riding it out for now. Bishop eventually gives up the hold. Hartley tries to roll over but Bishop keeps him under control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hartley makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hartley. Hartley wants to stand and escape but Bishop is having none of it. Bishop wants to control from the top but Hartley keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hartley looking to control.
Bishop controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Bishop trying to control but Hartley is working from the bottom. Bishop slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Bishop definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of James Bishop. Bishop shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hartley as he jumps to the side. Bishop is breathing heavily. Bishop shoots in for a takedown but Hartley shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Bishop shoots in looking for a takedown but Hartley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bishop's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Left hook, right uppercut from Hartley.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bishop tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hartley defends well and Bishop ends up having to push Hartley into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Hartley goes for a takedown attempt but Bishop pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Bishop shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hartley pinned against the cage. Hartley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Hartley's coach down at EvolutioN MMA Acadamy & Gym ( 12 ELITE Coaches ) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Hartley's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hartley drops Bishop with a beautiful combination! Bishop stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hartley is looking for the KO!
It looks like James Bishop has been cut. A big right followed by a crushing left from Hartley knocks Bishop out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!
