The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ahmed shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Durran counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Durran looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ahmed is fending him off so far but Durran persists. Nope, Ahmed circles away and we're back to standing.
Durran stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Durran wants it to stay on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ahmed.

Ahmed is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Durran is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ahmed looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ahmed is trying to get an arm triangle but Durran is defending well.

Ahmed has hold of Durran's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Durran tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Ahmed cranks the arm and Durran screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Durran, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ahmed Ahmed!
Ahmed Ahmed made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'Ahmed!'.
Billy Durran spoke after the fight, saying 'I'm sorry that I let all of you down. I gave it 100 percent and I promise that I will come back stronger next time'.
