Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Winston Waits (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and TJ Liston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waits comes to the cage accompanied by Tom Waits - Bad As Me. TJ Liston has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Winston Waits! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, TJ Liston! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Waits tries to clinch there but Liston circles away.
Waits scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Waits in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Waits definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Waits thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Waits wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Liston, who protects the arm well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Liston struggling a bit here. Waits in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Who's going to make the next move? Liston manages to get back to half guard. Waits has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Waits is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's one minute gone in the round. Waits throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Liston works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Liston controls Waits momentarily but Waits frees himself. Waits looking to sit in guard and control but Liston gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Liston won't allow Waits to sweep him here. Liston wants to control from the top but Waits keeps moving. Liston wants to pass the guard but Waits is keeping the position. Waits throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy.

Waits raining down shots from the mount! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Liston wants to hold on but Waits pushes him away. Waits wants to finish this one by submission but Liston is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Waits. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Waits jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Liston is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Liston and Waits has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Liston fails with a takedown attempt. Nice sprawl there from Liston as Waits shoots in. Liston displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Waits. Liston keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Winston Waits. That's going to take a lot out of him. Waits throws a right and a left that both miss. Waits fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Liston shoots in but no luck this time. Liston throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Liston shoots in looking for a takedown but Waits manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Liston's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Waits drives through with a takedown into Liston's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Liston looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Liston! Waits gets back to half guard. Waits is looking for a sweep. Liston is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Waits is working hard here to advance position. Waits won't allow Liston to pass to mount. Winston Waits overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Waits throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Waits is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Liston defends well. Waits trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Liston stopping the sweep attempt from Waits. Liston keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Waits's head. Waits doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Liston gets to his feet. Waits looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Liston tries to clinch up. Waits shoots for a double leg takedown but Liston sprawls well. He's pushed Waits's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Liston is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Winston Waits seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Liston fails to land with a series of punches.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Waits. Waits looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Waits dives in and grabs Liston's left leg, looking for a takedown. Liston pushes down on Waits's head and hops out. Waits cracks Liston with a right hand to the side of the head. Waits manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Liston on his heels. He'll look to pass Liston's guard now, I'm sure. Liston is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Waits is controlling him. Waits throws a strike but Liston rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Waits looking to hit a scissor sweep but Liston is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Waits is working an open guard so Liston takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Liston throws a head kick that misses. Liston closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Liston lands in his opponent's guard. Liston in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Waits wants to sweep here but Liston controlling him for the moment. Liston passes easily into side control. Nice work. Waits manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Liston got a little sloppy there for a moment and Waits has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Liston has managed to get both his arms back between Waits's legs - danger averted. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Waits manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
TJ Liston has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Waits wants to control the pace but Liston is squirming around nicely.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Winston Waits. Well Waits has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Winston Waits decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
