PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Goatboys Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mervyn Goble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Child might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bill Hicks - Goatboy. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Goatboys Child!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mervyn Goble!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Child shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Goble but Goble pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Goble loads up on a big right hand but Child slips the punch.

Child scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Child swings around for an armbar but Goble sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Child's guard.
Goble lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Goble throws a big right hand that misses.
Child avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Child lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Goble!
Goble tries to improve his position but instead Child has taken his back!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Child tightening his grip on Goble, looking for the choke.

Goble just trying to survive but Child is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Goble looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Goble is keeping busy.
Child just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Child could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Child tries to keep control of the position but Goble is staying busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Child is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Goble rolls, trying to escape but Child keeps control of the position.

Child working for a choke but Goble is defending well.
Goble trying to control the hands but Child won't let him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Goble can't escape the position.

Child is looking for the choke from the back position but Goble is controlling his hands well.
Goble staying busy and making it hard for Child to control.
Goble looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Goble is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Goble turns into Child and is now in his guard.

Child has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Goble can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Goble connects with a couple of short punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Goble with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Child might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Goble looking to pass the guard.
Goble working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Goatboys Child dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Child looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Goble!
Goble manages to work his way to half guard, despite Child's best efforts.
Goble manages to get to full guard.
Child looking to sit in guard and control but Goble gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Goble trying to control but Child is working from the bottom.
Goble trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Goble postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Child wants to sweep here but Goble controlling him for the moment.

Goatboys Child overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Child keeping moving, preventing Goble from controlling successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Goble pushing down on Child's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Goble throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Child tries to get to full guard but Goble has control of the leg.

Child is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Goble pulls his head out easily.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Goble seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Child is refusing to be controlled, as Goble sits in half guard.
Child is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Goble scores with a couple of nice shots.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Goble connects with a nice short shot to Child's temple.
Goble trying to control the action but Child is working from the bottom.
Child has hold of Goble's hands but Goble slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Child avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Goble.
Goble lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goble drops an elbow to the side of Child's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Goble wants to lay and pray for a moment but Child keeps working.
Goble is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.


Child is rocked!
Goble lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Goble thows a huge punch but Child dodges it nicely.
Child tries to roll over but Goble keeps him under control.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Goble connects with a nice short shot to Child's temple.
Goble wants to stand up but Child has a hold of him and won't allow it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Goble is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Child manages to get to full guard.
Goble stopping the sweep attempt from Child.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mervyn Goble showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Goble lands a jab to the nose.
Oh Child is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Goble scores with a shot to the body.
Child seems to have got his legs back now.
Goble finds Child's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Child flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Goble lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Child will be OK.

Goatboys Child spoke after the fight, saying 'Goatboy was here to please you!'.
