Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dylan Schmeyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nicolas Arenas! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schmeyer keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Schmeyer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Arenas tries for a takedown but Schmeyer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Arenas dives in for a single leg takedown but Schmeyer sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Dylan Schmeyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nicolas Arenas. Schmeyer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Arenas with a lazy takedown attempt and Schmeyer counters with a one-two to the body. Arenas shoots in for a takedown but Schmeyer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Schmeyer loads up on a big right hand but Arenas slips the punch. Schmeyer goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Schmeyer doesn't manage to clinch there - Arenas circles away.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Schmeyer landing knees to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Schmeyer breaks from the clinch.
Nicolas Arenas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Arenas has his takedown stuffed and Schmeyer counters with a nice body shot. Schmeyer tries to clinch there but Arenas circles away.

Arenas shoots in for a takedown but Schmeyer shows good takedown defense. Schmeyer has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Brick Brawlers MMA (12 Coaches) in the buildup to the fight. Arenas fails to land the takedown. Arenas circles away from the clinch attempt.
Decent striking displayed by Schmeyer there. Schmeyer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Schmeyer lands with a nice body punch. Schmeyer throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Arenas.
It looks like Nicolas Arenas has been cut. Schmeyer tries to clinch up but Arenas circles away and keeps his distance. Schmeyer scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Arenas with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Schmeyer to score with a decent uppercut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Schmeyer lands a slapping body shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Arenas gets a double leg takedown into Schmeyer's guard. Arenas seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Schmeyer is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Arenas dives into side control.
Arenas decides to take the fight back to the feet. Arenas looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Arenas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Schmeyer's waist but Schmeyer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Arenas off to one side. Arenas shoots in but no luck this time. Schmeyer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Schmeyer stuffs the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmeyer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Arenas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Arenas looks winded! Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Schmeyer, as that shot connected.
Arenas takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Arenas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Schmeyer dodges the punch combination from Arenas.
Schmeyer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Arenas throws a right and a left that both miss. Schmeyer gets in close and instigates a clinch. Schmeyer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Schmeyer tries to bum rush Arenas with a series of wild strikes but Arenas uses good footwork to avoid the assault. A combination from Arenas does no damage. Arenas tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Schmeyer swivels and escapes. Arenas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Schmeyer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Schmeyer lands a jab to Arenas's midsection.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Schmeyer throws a head kick that misses. Schmeyer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Schmeyer throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Arenas. Schmeyer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Schmeyer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Arenas. Sloppy strikes from Schmeyer. Those never looked like landing. A jab from Schmeyer finds it's way through Arenas's defenses. Arenas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! No luck with that takedown attempt from Arenas. Schmeyer lands a jab to Arenas's midsection. Arenas tries for a takedown but Schmeyer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schmeyer thumps Arenas with a low kick. Arenas is breathing heavily. Schmeyer stalks Arenas and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Arenas's face. Arenas staggers backwards, shaken. Dylan Schmeyer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Schmeyer misses with a double jab.
Arenas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Arenas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Schmeyer sprawls well initially but Arenas persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Schmeyer tries to kick Arenas off but Arenas keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Schmeyer is trying to get back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Arenas controlling the position. Schmeyer is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Arenas asserts his dominance and retains side control.

It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Arenas trying to control the action but Schmeyer is working from the bottom. Schmeyer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Schmeyer tries to get out of the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Schmeyer is trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Arenas content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Nicolas Arenas hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Arenas shoots in but Schmeyer avoids the takedown attempt easily. Schmeyer throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Schmeyer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Arenas closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Schmeyer did well to prevent Arenas getting side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arenas throws a nice looking combination but Schmeyer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Schmeyer connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Arenas slips a jab and a cross from Schmeyer.

Arenas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Schmeyer gets in close and instigates a clinch. Nicolas Arenas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schmeyer pushes Arenas back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Schmeyer makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Arenas wants to take the fight to the mat but Schmeyer manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Schmeyer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Schmeyer has taken the fight to the clinch.
Schmeyer pushes Arenas back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Arenas tries to score a body lock takedown but Schmeyer shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Schmeyer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A left and a right from Schmeyer both land. Nice combination. Arenas fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Schmeyer moves into the clinch successfully.

Arenas is rocked! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Arenas. Arenas's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Schmeyer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Arenas scrambles back to his feet. Arenas is still on wobbly legs! Can Schmeyer finish him? Schmeyer is looking to slow Arenas down with leg kicks. Arenas seems to have recovered his senses. Arenas looks for a takedown but Schmeyer sprawls well. Schmeyer throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Schmeyer lunges at Arenas with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Arenas's hand. Schmeyer clinches. Schmeyer is pressed up against the cage. Arenas has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Schmeyer down to the mat. Schmeyer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Arenas has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Schmeyer. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Schmeyer closes the distance and clinches. Arenas can't get the takedown.

Schmeyer shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Arenas eats them both and turns towards Schmeyer to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Schmeyer throws a series of punches but Arenas moves out of range. Arenas shoots and misses and Schmeyer counters with a three punch combo that has Arenas backing up. Arenas nods at Schmeyer to acknowledge the strikes. Schmeyer lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

The fighters circle, before Schmeyer throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Arenas's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Schmeyer lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
