PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clinton Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lennon Jann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Clinton Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lennon Jann!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jann shoots in but no luck this time.

Drake feints and as Jann raises his hands in defense, Drake changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Drake lands a couple of elbows.

Jann working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Drake has passed into half guard!
Drake passes into side control, despite Jann's attempt to control the position.
Jann is looking for a sweep.
Jann really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Drake. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Drake lands a few punches from side control.

Drake decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jann to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jann enables Drake to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jann manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jann is trying to hold Drake in close to prevent damage but Drake has managed to pass into half guard.

Drake has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jann tries to get to full guard but Drake has control of the leg.

Drake is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jann sees it coming and defends easily.

Jann is looking for a sweep. Drake is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Still in half guard, Drake seems content to control.
Drake wants to stand up but Jann is controlling the position.

Jann is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Drake pulls his head out easily.

Drake is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jann sees it coming and defends easily.
Jann wants to improve his position but Drake is controlling well.

Jann actively working from the bottom here.

Drake looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jann with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jann tries to roll over but Drake keeps him under control.
Drake wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jann keeps working.
Jann works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jann is trying to control the position but Drake postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Drake is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clinton Drake dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Drake shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jann's guard.

Jann is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Drake is aware though and is defending well.

Jann is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Drake avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Jann is looking for a triangle here but Drake uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Jann is looking to reverse the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Drake stands up and beckons Jann to his feet.
Jann fails with the takedown.

Jann gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Drake to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Jann looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Drake passes into half guard.
Clinton Drake overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jann is not content to let Drake control the position.

Drake is looking for a kimura here.
Jann is looking for a sweep. Drake is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jann has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Drake is working away from the top position though.

Drake is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
We've been informed that Jann has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Drake prevents Jann from improving his position.
Jann is looking to control Drake's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jann avoid being mounted?
Jann wants to get back to full guard.
Jann wants to control but Drake is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jann is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Jann keeps trying to improve his position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jann has a takedown stuffed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clinton Drake will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Jann throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Drake's waist but Drake gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jann off to one side.
Lennon Jann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Drake fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jann to the ground. Drake is now in Jann's guard.

Jann is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Drake might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jann is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jann is trying to keep Drake in close.
Jann looking to hit a scissor sweep but Drake is one step ahead there.

Drake thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jann is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jann wants to sweep but no luck.
Jann has momentary wrist control but Drake slips an elbow through the middle.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jann can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jann controls Drake momentarily but Drake frees himself.
Drake sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jann working a defensive guard but Drake passes into half guard.
Jann trying to get back to full guard but Drake takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Drake is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jann can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Drake looking to control and managing it successfully.

Jann tries to hold on but Drake pushes him away.
Lennon Jann has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jann tries to control Drake's body but Drake pushes him off. Jann squirms to his side and now Drake has his back!
Drake controlling well, preventing Jann from escaping the position.

Drake has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Jann has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Drake is hanging on to Jann's back as he tries to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Clinton Drake is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jann is in bad spot here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Clinton Drake showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Drake has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
