Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Marcelo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jared Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marcelo throws a series of punches but Gracie moves out of range.
Pedro Marcelo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Marcelo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Marcelo because Gracie loaded up on that one.
Gracie sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Gracie is working for a guillotine from mount but Marcelo frees his head quite easily.

We've been hearing good reports from Marcelo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gracie cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Gracie wants to take Marcelo's back here but Marcelo is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Gracie with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Marcelo is now in Gracie's guard. A big mistake from Gracie there, giving up the dominant position!

Marcelo cracks Gracie with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Pedro Marcelo was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
