Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Salam Abdulrahim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abdulrahim has chosen Brand Nubian - Allah U Akbar as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Salam Abdulrahim enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Santos!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Salam Abdulrahim!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Abdulrahim to the mat! Abdulrahim manages to get full guard.
Santos really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Santos is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Abdulrahim is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Abdulrahim has escaped and now he's on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abdulrahim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Abdulrahim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

and Abdulrahim counters with a nice double leg into side control. Santos won't be happy with that.

Abdulrahim's coach down at Brophy's Evil Troid Academy (BETA) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Abdulrahim's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Santos throws a right and a left that both miss.
Santos doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Abdulrahim counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Santos!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santos is breathing heavily.

It looks like Abdulrahim might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Salam Abdulrahim hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Santos fails with the takedown.

Abdulrahim throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Santos tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Abdulrahim is in Santos's guard.

Abdulrahim takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Abdulrahim is looking to take a break and control but Santos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
