Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Obasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Boyka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Obasi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yuri Boyka!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obasi fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Boyka misses with a head kick.
Boyka thumps Obasi with a low kick.
Good leg kick by Boyka there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Boyka lands an overhand right.
Obasi is looking to clinch but Boyka is avoiding it.

Obasi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Obasi's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Boyka told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Obasi has Boyka pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Obasi pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Boyka tumbling to the mat - Obasi dives into Boyka's guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Boyka keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Yuri Boyka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Obasi blocks a jab.
Boyka throws a chopping leg kick but Obasi manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Boyka displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Obasi.
Obasi tries to clinch up but Boyka circles away and keeps his distance.

Obasi stalks Boyka and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Boyka's face. Boyka staggers backwards, shaken.

Obasi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Boyka is fending him off so far but Obasi persists. Nope, Boyka circles away and we're back to standing.

and Boyka takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Obasi.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Obasi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
