PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Agustin Mccarty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Marduk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Agustin Mccarty has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Agustin Mccarty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Marduk!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paul Aken and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marduk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Marduk stops Mccarty from standing up.
Marduk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mccarty is proving hard to escape from.
Mccarty really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mccarty working for a triangle but Marduk defends it easily.
Mccarty wants to stand up but Marduk is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mccarty can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marduk controls the pace.

Mccarty is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Marduk presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Marduk breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Marduk feints and as Mccarty raises his hands in defense, Marduk changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mccarty will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mccarty is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Marduk is controlling him.
Marduk throws a big elbow that misses.
Marduk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mccarty. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mccarty is looking to stand up but Marduk isn't so interested in that idea.
Marduk would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Marduk rushes Mccarty and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Marduk jumps guard.

Marduk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Marduk lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mccarty!
Mccarty is in a horrible position here. Marduk smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Mccarty sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Mccarty pushes Marduk off looking to stand but Marduk dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marduk is just content to waste time from the top position. Mccarty takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Mccarty wants to stand up but Marduk is controlling him.
Marduk trying to control the position from guard on top but Mccarty is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Marduk wants to pass the guard but Mccarty is keeping the position.
Mccarty keeping moving, preventing Marduk from controlling successfully.

Marduk gets to his feet. Mccarty looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Marduk gets a takedown into half guard.

Marduk is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mccarty is just riding it out for now. Marduk eventually gives up the hold.

Mccarty has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Marduk is on him like a limpet, forcing Mccarty back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mccarty tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Marduk avoids it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Marduk has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mccarty uses from the top position.
Mccarty looking to sit in guard and control but Marduk gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Marduk dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mccarty checks the leg kick nicely there.

Marduk shoots in and bounces Mccarty off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dan Marduk has got the better of the ground game so far.
Marduk keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mccarty's head.

Mccarty has his feet on Marduk's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mccarty enables Marduk to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mccarty manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.


Mccarty is rocked!
Marduk controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Oh Mccarty is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Marduk stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Dan Marduk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Marduk has Mccarty up against the cage in a clinch.

Marduk pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mccarty wants to stand but Marduk is controlling his posture from full guard.
Marduk trying to strike off his back.
Mccarty seems to have got his legs back now.

Marduk looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mccarty has picked Marduk up and slammed him! Marduk can't keep hold of the triangle and Mccarty manages to pass to side control!
Marduk is breathing heavily.
Marduk is trying to work for a sweep but Mccarty has mounted him!

Mccarty gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Marduk manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mccarty on his heels. He'll look to pass Mccarty's guard now, I'm sure.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Mccarty manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mccarty misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Marduk.
Mccarty is trying to break free.

Marduk breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dan Marduk is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mccarty tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marduk sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mccarty somewhat.

Marduk must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Marduk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mccarty swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Marduk wants to pass the guard but Mccarty is keeping the position.
Mccarty wants to stand but Marduk is controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Marduk tries to free his leg and advance position but Mccarty is retaining full guard.

Dan Marduk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Marduk wants to control from the top but Mccarty keeps moving.

Dan Marduk has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Marduk shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mccarty is trying to defend but Marduk finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Marduk takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Marduk is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mccarty sees it coming and defends easily.

Mccarty looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Marduk pushes past his half guard into mount!
Mccarty is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Mccarty bucks up and throws Marduk to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Marduk has managed to clinch.

Marduk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Marduk wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mccarty manages to pass to side control.

Marduk throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mccarty tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Marduk is in Mccarty's guard.

Dan Marduk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Marduk has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
