Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dana Byrd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amir Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dana Byrd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Amir Khan!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan dives in for a single leg takedown but Byrd sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Byrd jumps guard but Khan stands there with Byrd around his waist. Byrd gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Khan pulls guard effortlessly.
Byrd wants to stand but Khan is controlling his posture from full guard.
Byrd wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.
Khan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Byrd wants to stand but Khan has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Khan is trying to keep Byrd in close.
Khan has control of Byrd's left arm, preventing Byrd from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Amir Khan hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Khan darts in and clinches Byrd up against the cage.
Byrd tries to pull guard but Khan won't allow it.

Byrd escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Khan.
Byrd stuffs the takedown attempt from Khan. Khan gets slowly back to his feet.
Dana Byrd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Amir Khan.
Khan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Byrd as he jumps to the side.

Byrd tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Byrd blocks an elbow strike.
Byrd misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Khan.
A right handed body shot lands from Khan.
Khan lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Khan tries to break the clinch but Byrd is controlling the position.

Khan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Byrd uses from the top position.

Byrd gets to his feet - Khan follows without any prompting.
Byrd throws a sloppy head kick and Khan moves out of range easily.
Byrd really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Khan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Byrd defends well and Khan ends up having to push Byrd into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Byrd tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Khan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Byrd breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Khan takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Byrd manages to break the clinch.

Khan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Byrd, pushing him back against the cage.
Khan prevents the takedown attempt.
A right hook to the body lands for Byrd.
Byrd looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Khan is trying to break the clinch but Byrd has him pressed against the cage.
Byrd has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Khan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Byrd is breathing heavily.
Khan pushes off an throws an elbow but Byrd leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Byrd tries to break the clinch but Khan is controlling the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khan is trying to stall.

A close round but Amir Khan will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Amir Khan.

Amir Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Byrd darts in trying to clinch
and Khan counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Byrd closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Byrd lands in his opponent's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Khan is on top in guard.
Byrd is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Khan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Amir Khan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Amir Khan.
Well Khan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
