PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Heathcliff R (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Airbourne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Airbourne comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Slipknot-Pulse Of The Maggots kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Heathcliff R!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Airbourne!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
R closes this distance looking for a takedown but Airbourne circles away.
Airbourne misses with a double jab.

Airbourne gets a takedown into half guard.
Airbourne looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Airbourne prevents R from improving his position.
Airbourne stops R from getting back to his feet.
R is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Airbourne throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Airbourne missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Airbourne decides to return to a standing position.
R tries to close the distance and clinch up but Airbourne swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Airbourne feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Airbourne really doesn't want to stay on the ground with R. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

R looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Airbourne trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

R working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Airbourne doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Airbourne manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

R wants to sweep here but Airbourne controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


R tries to clinch there but Airbourne circles away.
R lands a nice leg kick that just misses Airbourne's sensitive parts.

so Airbourne counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Airbourne drops back, looking for a kneebar! R looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. R looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from R!

R tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no R has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Airbourne is looking to reverse the position.
R advances to mount.
R looking to finish with strikes here!
Airbourne can't escape the position.
Airbourne tries to lock up and control but R gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

R looking for a guillotine from mount but Airbourne is having none of it.

R wants to stand but Airbourne is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Airbourne is working to get back to half guard.

R has control of Airbourne's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Airbourne regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Heathcliff R overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Airbourne is squirming around, avoiding R's attempts to control the action.
Airbourne swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
R wants to stand but Airbourne is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Airbourne keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Airbourne wants to get back to his feet.
R is looking to stand but R has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Heathcliff R will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


R doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Airbourne counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for R!

R is pressing down on Airbourne's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Airbourne wants to stand but R has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

R has his foot on Airbourne's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Airbourne works his way back into a safe position though.

R looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

R is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Airbourne must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Airbourne gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Airbourne drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Airbourne has gone for a leg lock! R slips out almost immediately though and dives into Airbourne's guard.
R has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Airbourne is proving hard to escape from.

R passes Airbourne's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
R trying to control but Airbourne is working from the bottom.
R throws and elbow that misses. Airbourne uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in R's guard. Nice move by Airbourne!
Airbourne is stalling in the full guard.
R throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
R manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Airbourne manages to get himself to full guard.
R trying to stand up but can't free himself from Airbourne's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chuck Airbourne comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Airbourne has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
