Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Daniels! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
23 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fedor Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daniels moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Emelianenko takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
The fighters circling - Emelianenko throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Daniels punishes Emelianenko's body with a nice straight punch. Daniels throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Daniels connects with a high kick. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Emelianenko throws a poor cross that misses
and Daniels counters by clinching up. Daniels gets underhooks to prevent Emelianenko's takedown attempt.
Daniels works on Emelianenko's body with a couple of short punches. Daniels scores with a shot to the side of Emelianenko's head. Daniels has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Daniels lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Emelianenko is rocked! Emelianenko is trying to push Daniels away but Daniels has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Emelianenko can't break the clinch.
Emelianenko working hard to break the clinch. Emelianenko has Daniels pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Daniels manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Emelianenko is trying to break the clinch but Daniels is controlling him. Daniels pushes Emelianenko back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emelianenko has had enough of the clinch but Daniels keeps him there for the moment. Daniels has Emelianenko pressed against the cage, preventing Emelianenko from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Emelianenko looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Emelianenko wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Daniels has him pressed against the cage. Daniels lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Emelianenko. Emelianenko looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Daniels lands with a left to the head. Daniels landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Emelianenko looks winded! Daniels working some nice short punches in the clinch. Emelianenko wants a takedown but no success here.
John Daniels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Emelianenko. A nice glancing elbow lands by Daniels. Daniels scores with an uppercut up the middle. A frustrated look appears on Emelianenko's face as he tries to break the clinch. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Daniels lands with a short shot to the head. Emelianenko is still on wobbly legs! Can Daniels finish him? Emelianenko's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Daniels keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Emelianenko's efforts to push away. Emelianenko is trying to push Daniels away but Daniels has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Daniels dips a shoulder and cracks Emelianenko with a mighty uppercut! Emelianenko falls back against the cage and Daniels unloads with a barrage of strikes! Emelianenko is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Daniels screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Daniels! An out of breath John Daniels thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
