The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silver has a takedown stuffed.
Silver closes the distance and clinches up with Shaw, looking for a takedown. Silver pushes Shaw against the cage but Shaw circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Silver looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shaw is fending him off so far but Silver persists. Nope, Shaw circles away and we're back to standing.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Silver stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shaw swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shaw knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Silver on the ground.
Silver wants to pass the guard but Shaw is keeping the position.

Silver works to advance to full mount. Shaw defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Silver jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Shaw is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Shaw and Silver has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Silver shoots in looking for a takedown but Shaw manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silver's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Renano Silver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silver shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Shaw manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Shaw is looking for a triangle but Silver pushes his legs off easily.
Silver is looking to pass into half guard but Shaw pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Shaw is in guard.

Silver has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Renano Silver wasn't active enough on the ground.
Silver throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Shaw looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Silver is fending him off so far but Shaw persists. Nope, Silver circles away and we're back to standing.

Shaw jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Silver walks away with a smile on his face. Shaw gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Silver swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shaw stuffs the takedown.

Silver shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Silver was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Silver wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shaw keeps working.
Silver connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shaw some visible discomfort.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
