PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vicente Pearson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Durran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Durran is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Do or die. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vicente Pearson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Durran!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Durran fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Durran throws a head kick but Pearson moves out of range.
Durran misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pearson looks for a takedown but Durran sprawls well.
Durran keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Durran misses with a takedown attempt - Pearson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Vicente Pearson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Durran.

Durran manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pearson on his heels. He'll look to pass Pearson's guard now, I'm sure.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Pearson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Pearson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Durran trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Durran wants to pass the guard but Pearson is keeping the position.

Durran trying to control the position from guard on top but Pearson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Durran throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pearson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Durran has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Durran avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pearson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Billy Durran.
Durran shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pearson sprawls well. Pearson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Durran gets slowly back to his feet.
Durran shoots in and drives through. Pearson sprawls well.
Durran scores with a kick to the midsection.

Durran moves into the clinch successfully.

Pearson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Durran shoots in for a takedown but Pearson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Durran looks for a takedown but Pearson sprawls well.

Durran moves into the clinch.

Durran gets control of Pearson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Durran will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Pearson cracks Durran with a solid left hand.
Pearson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Durran clinches up with Pearson and pushes him back against the cage.

Pearson breaks from the clinch.
Durran looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pearson moves out of range as Durran strikes.

Durran has taken the fight to the clinch.
Durran tries to throw a body punch but Pearson avoids it by throwing Durran back against the cage.
Pearson has had enough of the clinch but Durran keeps him there for the moment.
Pearson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Durran gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Durran breaks from the clinch.
Durran changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pearson tries to avoid it but Durran manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pearson to the ground. Pearson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Durran moves into the clinch.
Durran lands a shot to the body.

Durran ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Durran no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Durran wants to stand but Pearson is controlling the position.
Durran is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Durran not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Vicente Pearson.
Pearson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Durran is fending him off so far but Pearson persists. Nope, Durran circles away and we're back to standing.
A combination from Pearson does no damage.
Vicente Pearson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Durran forces Pearson back against the cage and clinches.
Pearson wants to break free but Durran has control.
Pearson has had enough of the clinch but Durran keeps him there for the moment.
Durran can't break the clinch.
Durran misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Pearson.

Durran breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Durran throws a right hand that Pearson ducks under and follows up with a left that Pearson also avoids with ease.
Durran throws a head kick but Pearson moves out of range.

Pearson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Pearson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Durran.
Vicente Pearson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Durran.
Pearson is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Pearson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Durran avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Pearson is trying to drag Durran to the mat but Durran just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Durran tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pearson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Durran throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Pearson blocks it with crossed arms.
A bit of stalling here from Pearson.

Durran jumps guard.
Durran bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pearson's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Durran throws a big right hand that misses.

Durran throws a strike but Pearson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Durran showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Durran scores with a jab. Pearson acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Durran is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Pearson's half guard.
Durran is trying to control. Pearson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Durran is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Durran wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pearson keeps working.

Durran moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Pearson.
Pearson struggling a bit here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pearson is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Durran is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Pearson is looking to improve his position but Durran isn't that keen on the idea.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Durran putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Durran can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pearson is looking to escape.
Durran is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee warns Pearson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


Pearson is rocked!
Durran lands a big shot to the head and Pearson winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Billy Durran!
A relieved looking Billy Durran thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
