PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Reiner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Cena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Pedro Reiner has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Pedro Reiner seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pedro Reiner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Cena!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Chris Dean and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cena leaves Reiner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Reiner tries to clinch there but Cena circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Cena as Reiner shoots in.
Cena walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Reiner checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Cena takes the fight into the clinch.
Cena lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Reiner goes for a takedown in the clinch but Cena prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pedro Reiner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cena decides to pull guard.

Cena is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Reiner is aware though and is defending well.
Cena keeping moving, preventing Reiner from controlling successfully.
Reiner won't allow Cena to sweep him here.

Reiner forces his way into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cena can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cena wants to improve his position but Reiner is controlling well.
Reiner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cena keeps working.
Cena is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Reiner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Reiner's back!
Cena really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reiner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Even with his hooks in, Cena manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Cena is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Reiner has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
What can Reiner do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Reiner is trying to get back to his feet but Cena has full control of the position and if anything, Reiner has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Cena has the hooks in. Reiner is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Reiner wants to control his opponent's hands but Cena gets his hands free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cena trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Reiner doesn't escape.
Cena is punishing Reiner with some ground and pound.
Reiner trying to get back to his feet but Cena is in full control for now.
Reiner manages to reverse the position and now he's in Cena's guard. Nice work there by Reiner.

Cena working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reiner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reiner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cena is on top in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Cena drives through and clinches with Reiner against the cage.

Cena jumps guard and drags Reiner to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Cena bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Reiner's guard.
Cena seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Reiner is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cena scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Reiner tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cena trying to stand up but can't free himself from Reiner's guard.
Reiner is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cena must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cena stays in close to Reiner's body and controls the position.
Reiner is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Reiner wants to sweep here but Cena controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cena clinches.
Reiner jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cena walks away with a smile on his face. Reiner gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Reiner throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Cena gets caught flat footed, as Reiner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cena working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Reiner.
Reiner won't allow Cena to get back to his feet.
John Cena has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reiner is stalling in the full guard.

Cena looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cena is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reiner is controlling him.
Cena looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reiner is one step ahead there.

Reiner trying to control the position from guard on top but Cena is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Reiner looking to sit in guard and control but Cena gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cena wants to get up but he can't break Reiner's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Reiner is trying to control the position but Cena postures up.

Cena is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cena scoring with punches to the head and body.
Cena sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Reiner's guard.
Cena content to control rather than advance.

Cena wants to work for an arm triangle but Reiner is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

John Cena showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Cena prevents Reiner from escaping the position.
Cena wants to stand but Reiner has his arm trapped.
Reiner is trying to control Cena's posture but Cena avoids it.
Cena cracks Reiner with a big elbow.
Cena remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Cena wants to stand but Reiner is controlling his arm.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Cena is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Reiner has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cena is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Cena thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Reiner avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cena.

Cena looking to control and managing it successfully.

Reiner is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cena working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Reiner tries to buck Cena off but Cena takes his back!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cena is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pedro Reiner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Cena is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

John Cena comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cena has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
