PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Helmut Doerner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Armis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doerner comes to the ring accompanied by Balls to the Wall by Accept. Armis comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mortal Kombat Theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 18 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Helmut Doerner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eli Armis!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doerner moves in looking to clinch but Armis pushes him off.
Armis lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Armis fails with the takedown.
Armis clobbers Doerner with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Doerner misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Doerner tries to clinch but Armis is having none of it.
Doerner tries to clinch up but Armis circles away and keeps his distance.
Doerner takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Armis misses with a hook. Doerner ducked under it nicely.

Armis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Doerner on his heels. He'll look to pass Doerner's guard now, I'm sure.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Doerner keeping moving, preventing Armis from controlling successfully.
Armis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Armis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Armis postures up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Armis tries to free his leg and advance position but Doerner is retaining full guard.
Doerner managing to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Armis looking to sit in guard and control but Doerner gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Armis controls Doerner momentarily but Doerner frees himself.

Armis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Doerner defends well.
Doerner throwing strikes but missing.
Doerner scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Armis lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Doerner!
Armis fails to advance to Doerner's back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Armis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Doerner to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Doerner shrugs it off.
Armis tries to control but Doerner wriggling away.
Armis looking to control and managing it successfully.
Doerner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Armis trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Armis looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Armis avoids the attempt from Doerner to control.
Armis thowing shots but they're missing.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Doerner really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Armis raining down shots from the mount!
Armis tries to control but Doerner wriggling away.
Armis throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Doerner definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Armis controlling the position easily from mount.
My spies in Rape Academy inform me that Armis has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Doerner wants to try and get back to his feet.
Doerner keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Doerner is working hard here to advance position.

Armis swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Doerner is now in Armis's guard. A big mistake from Armis there, giving up the dominant position!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Doerner postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Armis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Doerner is aware though and is defending well.
Doerner postures up and lands a big shot to Armis's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eli Armis dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Armis gets caught flat footed, as Doerner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Doerner chips away with some ground and pound.
Doerner keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Armis's head.
Armis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Doerner working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Armis's head.
Doerner working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Doerner is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Armis has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Doerner is looking to defend but Armis has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Doerner! Armis pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Doerner taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Eli Armis!
Eli Armis seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
In defeat, Helmut Doerner stepped up to the mic, saying 'I will cripple this fool in Abu Dhabi'.
