Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gene Saunders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Maxwell!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maxwell darts in trying to clinch
and Saunders holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Maxwell trying to control the position but instead, Saunders has worked for underhooks and has pushed Maxwell into the cage.
Maxwell wants to get back to striking at distance but Saunders won't allow it.
Saunders tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Maxwell avoids it.
Maxwell has a couple of punches blocked by Saunders.
Saunders's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sloppy strikes from Maxwell. Those never looked like landing.
Saunders misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Maxwell changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Maxwell with a poor takedown
and Saunders holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Maxwell is trying to break the clinch but Saunders is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Saunders is pressed up against the cage. Maxwell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Saunders down to the mat. Saunders avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Maxwell lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Saunders sprawling to the canvas. Maxwell follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Saunders hang on?
Saunders is rocked!
It looks like Gene Saunders has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Saunders is concentrating on defense, preventing Maxwell from advancing position.
Oh Saunders is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Saunders wants to control but Maxwell is keeping busy.
Maxwell is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Maxwell has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Saunders defend it? Maxwell steps over the head and cranks it - Saunders is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Maxwell!
