0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eryk Bartnik! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Holmes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Holmes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Holmes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bartnik displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Holmes. Holmes misses with a takedown attempt and Bartnik counters with a takedown into side control. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Son Holmes. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Bartnik thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bartnik is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Holmes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. That's one minute gone in the round. Holmes is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Bartnik misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Bartnik tries to advance to mount but Holmes denies him. Bartnik is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Holmes has escaped the position, nice work there. Bartnik trying to control the action but Holmes is working from the bottom. Holmes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bartnik on the ground. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bartnik is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Holmes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Bartnik has hold of Holmes's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Holmes seems comfortable defending it but Bartnik has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Holmes is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Holmes is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Bartnik couldn't care less - he's delighted!
