Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phil Anselmo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anselmo comes to the cage accompanied by Mouth for War by Pantera. Alves has chosen Big Things Poppin as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Anselmo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thiago Alves! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves fails with an attempt to clinch.
Anselmo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Alves swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Anselmo tries for a takedown but Alves sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Anselmo wants to clinch. Alves circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alves tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Anselmo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Alves's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Anselmo postures up in Alves's guard and throws a big left but Alves blocks it. Anselmo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Anselmo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Alves is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Anselmo lands a couple of decent looking shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anselmo throws a big right hand that misses. Alves wants to get back to his feet but Anselmo is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Anselmo thows a big elbow that misses.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Alves tries to clinch but Anselmo moves away and Anselmo counters by clinching up. Anselmo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Alves gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Anselmo tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Alves's elbow. Anselmo breaks from the clinch.
Alves shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Anselmo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Anselmo. Alves wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Anselmo lands a right hand. Alves looks to throw an elbow but misses. Alves breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Alves looks to clinch and Anselmo counters with a three punch combo that has Alves backing up. Alves nods at Anselmo to acknowledge the strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves with a poor takedown and Anselmo counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Anselmo not landing any meaningful shots this time. Anselmo wants to pass to mount but Alves is defending the position. Anselmo is breathing heavily. Alves wants to get back to his feet.
Alves has one foot on Anselmo's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Anselmo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Anselmo lands strikes from half guard. Nice strikes from Anselmo there. Anselmo wants to control but Alves is keeping him busy. Anselmo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Anselmo not landing any meaningful shots this time. Alves is not content to let Anselmo control the position. Alves blocking the ground and pound attempt from Anselmo. Anselmo wants to pass the guard but Alves is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alves blocking the ground and pound attempt from Anselmo.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Alves tries to clinch but Anselmo moves away and Anselmo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Anselmo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Anselmo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Alves is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Alves landing knees to the body.
Alves unloads a knee to the mid-section. Anselmo lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Alves blocks an elbow strike from Anselmo.

Alves lands a nice knee to the body. Anselmo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Alves is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Phil Anselmo dominated that round. That's time! Anselmo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Alves gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Anselmo counters with a shoot takedown. Alves fights it but they end up in guard. Alves wants to stand but Anselmo is controlling the position. Anselmo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Anselmo wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving. Anselmo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Alves is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Phil Anselmo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anselmo won't allow Alves to get back to his feet. Anselmo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Anselmo closes the distance and clinches. Alves wants to break the clinch but can't.
Anselmo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alves tries to clinch up and Anselmo counters with a three punch combo that has Alves backing up. Alves nods at Anselmo to acknowledge the strikes. Anselmo moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Alves is rocked! Alves clinches but Anselmo breaks the clinch and Anselmo counters with a big right hand! Oh Alves is in trouble here! Anselmo follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Anselmo!
