Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Thomas William! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Roosevelt Coleman! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! William has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from William there as he acknowledges the shot. Thomas William seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. William shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Coleman but Coleman pushes him off and we're back to square one. Nice jab there from Coleman. William gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Coleman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. William keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from William is defended easily by Coleman. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas William. That's going to take a lot out of him. William looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Coleman is fending him off so far but William persists. Nope, Coleman circles away and we're back to standing. Coleman with a body punch. A glancing blow. William tries for a takedown but Coleman circles away easily and Coleman makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. William is breathing heavily. Coleman punishes William's body with a nice straight punch. Coleman drops William with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but William looks back up at him and smiles so Coleman waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
William with a lazy takedown attempt and Coleman counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Coleman comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. William takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coleman lands with a shot to the body. William ducks into an uppercut from Coleman and that's knocked him out cold! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Roosevelt Coleman! After winning the bout, Roosevelt Coleman thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
